As 2016 draws to a close, it’s natural to reflect back on the year that was. Before we start making New Year’s resolutions for 2017, let’s first celebrate the things we’re grateful for, especially in the amazing digital marketing world we currently live in.
As a Gen X marketer, I can only barely remember when the industry relied on unmeasurable tools such as paper coupons and television ads. Sure, these are still around, but we also now have an array of digital tools that tell us exactly who’s taking us up on our offers, who’s clicking and certainly who’s buying.
We should be grateful for analytics that help us hone our craft, tweak our message and ensure the highest conversion possible.
You’ve got to hand it to digital marketing: it keeps us on our toes. As soon as we get accustomed to one social media tool, it’s on its way out. Then some amazing new platform hits the scene. It’s like living at a nightclub: trends come and go, and you can dance to whatever beat you want.
Thank goodness the days of push marketing are behind us. Today’s customers are actively telling their social circle about brands they love, which makes our work easier.
Brand evangelists can reduce what we have to spend to get the word out, and 68% of people trust reviews by other consumers, which is better than we could get doing our marketing on our own.
No matter what size your marketing budget is, you can still get great exposure online. If you have no budget, managing your own social media accounts is fairly easy and worthwhile. If you have some budget, you can play around with different tools like press releases, content marketing and advertising.
By paying attention to analytics, you can determine which tools net the ROI you’re looking for and invest additional resources into them.
Whenever a new tool or platform comes out that saves time for me in my marketing, I’m all over it. Think about how before social software hit the market, we had to log onto every social media site we managed. Now there is a shortcut, and that gives us more time to put into other areas of our businesses.
Before you complain about Facebook’s next platform update or a price increase for your favorite marketing tool, take a moment to be grateful for all the ways digital marketing makes your work easier and more fruitful.
