Promotions at MSNBC, Addition at Wired, and New Tech Editor at WaPo

  • MSNBC is beefing up its booking department by promoting two of its veteran producers. Sarah Baker and Jesse Rodriguez have officially been named as directors of booking for the network. Baker will serve as the point of contact for guests and contributors in Washington, while Rodriguez, who has produced for the network’s Morning Joe for the past six years, will focus on high-profile guests for afternoon and prime time shows in New York.
  • On Jan. 16, Christina Passariello will leave her role as deputy technology editor for The Wall Street Journal to join The Washington Post as its new technology editor. Passariello first joined WSJ in 2006, writing from Paris as a European luxury and fashion correspondent.
  • The New York Times deputy executive editor Janet Elder has passed away due to illness. Her career at NYT began in 1984 as a reporter, and spanned over three decades and six title changes. She will be remembered by colleagues for both her work ethic and her kindness.
  • Wonbo Woo, former news director for the mobile news app, Beme, is now executive video producer for Wired. A graduate of New York University, Woo has also produced for ABC and NBC News.
  • After 30 years with WGN-TV, weatherman Jim Ramsey has retired. Ramsey joined WGN in 1987, and has most recently served as the weekend weather forecaster. He was previously a meteorologist for WJLA-TV in Washington and WLS-TV in Chicago.
  • Allison Aldridge has been promoted to general manager of WXLV-TV and WMYV-TV, Sinclair’s respective ABC and MyNetwork TV affiliates in the Greensboro/Winston Salem, North Carolina market. Aldridge has been with Sinclair for more than 13 years, most recently serving as the group’s director of sales in Greensboro.
  • ESPN president John Skipper has formally resigned from his post, citing the need to focus on his health and family. George Bodenheimer, ESPN president until 2011 and executive chairman until 2014, will step in as an interim president for ESPN to help Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger find a replacement.
  • After 17 years at The Philadelphia Inquirer, deputy managing editor Tom McNamara has resigned. His career brought about a complete reinvention of the newspaper, keeping the Inquirer one of the highest circulating Sunday papers in the the country.
