CisionScoop: Loren DiBlasi has joined Paste magazine as associate music editor. Most recently, DiBlasi was a news editor at MTV. She has previously written for Impose Magazine and served as editor of Get Festy, a blog for music festival news.
CisionScoop: The Philadelphia Inquirer added reporter Sarah Gantz to cover healthcare. She joins from The Baltimore Sun, where she worked as a business reporter since 2016. Gantz has also written for the Baltimore Business Journal and the San Francisco Examiner.
Newsweek abruptly parted ways with several editorial staffers, including two at the top of its masthead. Nancy Cooper, managing editor of International Business Times (Newsweek’s sister publication), has been named acting editor in wake of the following departures:
- Editor in chief Bob Roe, who had been with the company since 2013. Previously, he worked as assistant managing editor for Reuters Magazine, features editor at Conde Nast’s Portfolio and assistant managing editor at Sports Illustrated.
- Executive editor Ken Li, who joined in 2016 as managing editor. Before Newsweek, Li was editor in chief at Recode and held several editorial positions at Reuters.
- Senior writer Celeste Katz, hired last September to cover the White House and national affairs. Katz previously covered politics for Mic and the New York Daily News.
- Senior writer Matthew Cooper has resigned. Cooper previously served as a national correspondent in the Washington bureau from 1996 to 1999. He also worked for TIME, The Atlantic and National Journal before returning to Newsweek in 2014.
Teen VOGUE has hired Samhita Mukhopadhyay as executive editor. Most recently, she was senior editorial director of culture and identities at Mic, and was previously executive editor of Feministing. Additionally, Ella Cerón was promoted to deputy editor, up from West Coast editor. She joined the staff as digital entertainment editor in 2015.
Nathan Hodge has been named Moscow bureau chief at CNN. He joins from The Wall Street Journal, where he worked in the same capacity since 2015. Before that, he covered national security and defense from around the globe, including a stint as Kabul bureau chief. He will be joined by senior international correspondent Fred Pleitgen, currently based in London. Pleitgen has been with the network for 12 years served as Berlin correspondent from 2006 to 2014.
Fresh off his departure from Fusion, WIRED brought on Felix Salmon as a contributor for its Ideas section. He continues to host Slate’s Money podcast and edits Cause & Effect, which was previously part of Fusion’s Gizmodo Media Group.
