CisionScoop: Special projects editor Sarah Lawson left Fast Company after several years at the magazine. She joined as an editorial assistant, and quickly was promoted to assistant editor and associate editor before assuming her most recent position. Previously, Lawson freelanced for Complex Media and Architectural Digest.
The Wall Street Journal brought on Cory Schouten as a senior editor overseeing newsletter content. Schouten was previously a senior editor at Columbia Journalism Review, and also worked as a correspondent for CBS Moneywatch. Before that, he was managing editor at Indianapolis Business Journal, which he joined as a reporter covering real estate and retail. h/t Talking Biz News
Josh Campbell is now a law enforcement analyst at CNN, offering insight on crime, justice and national security. Campbell spent 12 years at the FBI, most recently as a supervisory special agent. He also spent time as special assistant to former FBI director James Comey.
Meagan Flynn joined The Washington Post as an overnight reporter on the Morning Mix team. Flynn comes to the paper from the Houston Chronicle’s metro desk, and worked at the Houston press before that. She also helped launch Paste’s college section while a student at Drake University.
Conde Nast announced new roles for several staffers at its LGBTQ brand, them:
- Meredith Talusan was named executive editor, up from senior editor. Talusan was previously a staff writer at BuzzFeed focused on transgender issues, and has written for The Guardian, VICE, The Nation and The American Prospect.
- Associate editor Tyler Ford was promoted to editor. Ford’s writing on queer and trans identity has been featured by The Guardian, MTV and Rookie.
- Tyler Trykowski joins the platform as senior editor from VICE, where they worked as LGBTQ editor since 2016. Trykowski was previously an editorial assistant, and later assistant editor for Playboy.
- Aamina Khan also joins them as a community manager after a year working as a social media fellow at BuzzFeed. Khan replaces Michael Cuby, who transitioned to a new role as editor at large.
Lindsay Berra left MLB.com to pursue freelance opportunities. She was on staff since January 2013 and was previously a senior writer for ESPN Magazine since 1999, primarily covering hockey, tennis, baseball and Olympic Sports.
Raleigh’s WRAL-TV hired Dave Hendrickson as enterprise editor, working on special projects, investigations and government coverage. He joins the NBC affiliate from the Daily Press in Newport News, Virginia, where he coordinated government coverage and the paper’s Sunday edition.
Judy Patrick, senior vice president and editor of The Daily Gazette in Schenectady, New York, announced her departure after 35 years with the paper. She stays on until the end of this month. Managing editor Miles Reed has been tapped as her replacement. He was named to his current role in 2015 and joined the staff in 1995.
