CisionScoop: Alexandra Polkinghorn has joined WSJ. Magazine as managing editor. She replaces Sarah Schmidt, who is now director of editorial operations for GQ. Polkinghorn was most recently deputy editorial director for The New York Times news service/syndicate, and prior to that, served as director of editorial operations for Refinery29. Before that, she was with Vanity Fair from 2010 to 2015 in a variety of editorial business roles.
CisionScoop: The Wall Street Journal has parted ways with reporter Ben Leubsdorf, who covered central banks and the economy for WSJ since he joined the D.C. bureau in 2014. He is heading back to school to pursue a master's degree in library and information science. Prior to WSJ, Leubsdorf worked as a reporter at the Concord Monitor, and before that spent two years at the Associated Press.
NBC News has hired two new producers and added a director, all at the network's Washington bureau:
Chris Bing is the new cybersecurity reporter for Reuters out of the newswire's Washington bureau, effective July 30. He reports on how cybersecurity impacts national security, policy, business and foreign affairs. He was previously a cybersecurity reporter and associate editor for FedScoop, and prior to that reported for DC Inno and International Policy Digest.
The Houston Business Journal has welcomed Chris Mathews as finance and innovation reporter. He will cover finance, money, innovation and technology, as well as law firms. He was previously a reporter and graphics intern for the Religion News Service. Matthews is a recent graduate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. h/t Talking Biz News
WANE-TV, the CBS affiliate for Fort Wayne, Indiana, has hired Dirk Rowley as anchor, effective mid-August. He will deliver the news alongside longtime WANE-TV anchor Terra Brantley, on the top-rated 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts every weeknight. Rowley previously spent 14 years as the host of the Fort Wayne morning radio show Majic in the Morning on local station WAJI.
Jason Leucht has returned to WILN-FM in Panama City, Florida, as afternoon drive time on-air personality. Since exiting in early 2017, Leucht has served as program director for WKMX-FM in Dothan, Alabama, a program director of KJMY-FM in Salt Lake City, and an afternoon host for WXXQ-FM in Rockford, Illinois.
KVEA-TV, the Telemundo affiliate in Los Angeles, has brought on Sandra O’Neill as the station's newest weekend anchor. She will lead Noticiero Telemundo 52 Fin de Semana a las 6 p.m. y 11 p.m. beginning in August. O'Neill was previously a freelance reporter/anchor for KMEX-TV in Los Angeles.
