Media Move at Quartz magazine and Promotions at The Boston Globe & Bloomberg
Quartz magazine has hired Natasha Frost as a reporter, covering business. Frost had been featured previously in Quartz and Atlas Obscura during her time as a freelancer. Prior to freelancing, she was a digital producer for Radio New Zealand's flagship show, Checkpoint with John Campbell.
Editorial page editor, Ellen Clegg has retired from The Boston Globe after four years leading the editorial board. During her time with The Globe, she served as the executive director of communications, as well as deputy managing editor and city editor. Taking Clegg's place in the interim is business columnist Shirley Leung. In the past, Leung has been the assistant managing editor covering business, as well as the senior assistant business editor for The Globe.
Nancy Han has joined the NowThis Morning Facebook show as an executive producer. She comes from CBS This Morning where she was a senior producer. She was previously with ABC News, where she served as a senior producer for broadcast and an executive producer for ABC News Now.
Digiday has brought on Ilana Kaplan as a news editor covering the media industry. Kaplan has most recently been a culture writer for The Independent, as well as a freelancer. She will continue to freelance in addition to her new role. In the past, she has contributed to Paper Magazine, Paste Magazine and Interview Magazine.
Sam Mamudi of Blooomberg's Hong Kong bureau has been upped to team leader, covering greater China finance. In his new role he manages a team of reporters and editors that cover the finance industry and financial regulations across China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Mamudi has been in the Bloomberg Hong Kong bureau since 2013, where he started as a reporter.
Las Vegas ABC affiliate KTNV-TV has hired Jackie Kostek as a sports and features reporter. She is currently still with WCIU-TV's The Jam as a multimedia journalist. Before moving to television, Kostek was a video reporter and producer for DNAinfo.com, where she anchored the Morning Reports segments and produced Open House videos featuring city real estate.
FiveThirtyEight political editor, Micah Cohen, has been promoted to managing editor. He is also the host of the Politics podcast for the outlet. During his time with FiveThirtyEight, he has held positions as a politics editor, deputy editor and senior editor. He came from The New York Times where he started as a news clerk.
Assistant program director, Tony Cortez, has left Alpha Media's San Antonio, TX station KTFM-FM. Cortez took to Facebook to say goodbye Aug. 6, after 25 years in the broadcast business. As of now, there is no word on any future projects or job opportunities he is pursuing.
Jennifer Lyons, news director of Tribune Broadcasting WGN-TV and CLTV in Chicago, has accepted a new position. No official departure date has been set at WGN, but she is moving on to a non-editorial position, as the vice president of communications and external relations for Catholic Extensions, a fundraising organization. Lyons has spent nearly 25 years with WGN, working as an executive producer and assistant news director.
