Media Moves at Good Housekeeping & CNET, New Sports Reporter at WaPo
Blake Bakkila has joined Good Housekeeping as an associate editor for the outlet's digital arm. She comes from Health.com, where she most recently served as an assistant editor. Prior to that, she worked for Real Simple and People magazine as editorial assistant.
The sports desk of The Washington Post has promoted an editor, and hired a writer:
- Thomas Heleba, previously a sports copy editor, is now the multi-platform editor. He has been on the copy desk in sports since he joined the paper in 2000. Prior to that, he worked for the Arizona Daily Star.
- Emily Giambalvo has joined the paper as the new Maryland football and men’s basketball beat writer. She was previously an intern at the Post and recently graduated from the University of Georgia
Queenie Wong will join CNET as tech reporter in October. She comes from San Jose Mercury News, where she spent the last three years covering social media companies, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest in Silicon Valley.Before that she reported for the Salem Statesman Journal. h/t Talking Biz News
HuffPost has hired Ivylise Simones as creative director. She was previously a design director for Wired platforms, overseeing digital design. Before that, she spent almost four years at Mother Jones as creative director. She has worked in the same capacity for the New York Observer and Harris Publications.
Bob Moser, the editor of the Orlando Sentinel’s Growthspotter.com platform, has left the outlet after three years. He has left journalism all together to work for a civil engineering firm. Moser moved to Florida from São Paulo, Brazil in 2015 to work for GrowthSpotter.com as a reporter, and became its editor in 2016.
Fox-owned WDRB-TV in Louisville, Kentucky has parted ways with sports anchor/reporter Katie George. She left the station for the Milwaukee Bucks, where she is their new sideline and digital reporter. George has with WDRB for two years, and prior to that reported for WLKY-TV in Louisville.
Ryan O'Donnell will join KRON-TV, the MyNetworkTV-affiliated television station in San Francisco, as an anchor. He comes from Knoxville,Tennessee, where he spent the last three years at WATE-TV as a reporter. Prior to that, he worked at KTVK-TV in Arizona.
