Media Moves at The Zoe Report, NYT & Boston Globe, New Health Reporter at Crain's New York
The New York Times has welcomed Alisha Haridasani Gupta as a writer on its Briefings team. She writes the morning edition of the briefing for European readers. Gupta comes from The Skimm, where she spent a year as a writer. Prior to that, she worked for CNN as a producer, Bloomberg as a freelancer, and Business Traveler Magazine as news reporter.
Khalea Underwood has joined The Zoe Report as beauty editor, effective Aug. 20. She most recently served as beauty writer for Refinery29, and before that spent two years at Us Weekly as assistant to the editor in chief, and later, as style and beauty writer. The Zoe Report offers fashion, beauty and lifestyle finds from celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe.
The Associated Press has promoted two of its staff to leadership roles helming coverage of the northeastern United States.
- Peter Morgan, the photo editor for New York and New Jersey, has been named East Region deputy news director for storytelling and photos. He has been with the AP since 2005.
- Joe Danborn has been upped to the region’s deputy news director for newsgathering. He was previously the news editor for the Rockies, and joined the AP in 2005 as supervising editor.
Jess Bidgood will be the new national politics reporter at the The Boston Globe out of Washington. She is currently a reporter at The New York Times's New England bureau, a position she has held since 2011. Prior to that, she served as digital news producer for WGBH-TV in Boston.
Business Real Estate Weekly in Arizona has brought on Ilana Lowery as executive editor overseeing the publication’s product strategy and vision across all platforms, as well as audience growth. Lowery was previously the editor in chief of Phoenix Business Journal for five years, and before that worked as an editor for Independent Newspapers.
Jennifer Henderson has joined Crain's New York Business as a reporter covering healthcare. She was previously with the Triangle Business Journal, where she covered health care/life sciences, law and higher education. Before that, she reported for American Lawyer. h/t Talking Biz News
KUSI-TV, the independent station in San Diego, California, has named Anna Laurel evening anchor, effective Sept. 10. She previously spent almost a decade at KMPH-TV in Fresno, California, and before that worked at WTVD in Raleigh, North Carolina, and KPNX in Phoenix.
WTEM-AM sports talk radio in Washington, D.C., has bid farewell to two of its hosts: Chris Cooley and Rick “Doc” Walker. Cooley has co-hosted a weekday morning drive-time show with Kevin Sheehan since 2016. Before that, he co-hosted the afternoon show The Drive with Cooley and Czabe with Steve Czaban, for four years. Walker has been with the station since 1992, and was one of the original co-hosts of The John Thompson Show, which debuted in 1999. He also hosted the afternoon show Inside the Locker Room with Brian Mitchell and Scott Jackson.
Derrick Rose has moved to ABC-affiliated WISN-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to lead the station's investigative team as investigative reporter. He succeeds veteran journalist Colleen Henry, who retired in late July. Rose comes from WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky, where he worked as an anchor and investigative reporter.
ABC-owned WTEN-TV in Albany, New York has promoted Ryan Mott to news director, upped from executive producer. Mott has been with the station since 2010, when he joined the staff as an EP. Prior to that, he spent two years as a producer for WROC-TV in Rochester, New York.
