Media Moves at Variety & Houston Chronicle, New Weekend Editor at Insider
Variety has named Daniel Holloway executive editor for TV coverage, effective Nov. 26. He will be responsible for shaping the daily and weekly TV coverage for print and online, and set and implement Variety’s overall TV strategy, and will also will also put his own imprint on Variety’s TV podcast, “Remote Controlled.” Holloway was previously a senior TV reporter, and has been with Variety since 2016. Prior to that, he spent three years at Broadcasting & Cable.
Amir Bibawy has joined Marketplace as New York bureau chief and senior editor. He comes from the Associated Press, where he spent the last three years handling breaking news as a business team lead. Before that he served as a news producer at the AP. Bibawy has also reported for Que Pasa News, Radio Sawa, and Reuters.
The Washington Post Magazine has hired Whitney Joiner as articles editor, effective Nov. 26. She is the former features director at Hearst Magazines Digital Media, where she launched the company's first centralized features desk and edited long-form stories for the digital versions of Esquire, ELLE, Marie Claire and Town & Country. She has also been a senior features editor at Marie Claire and a freelance writer based in Marfa, Texas, where she contributed to ELLE, Glamour, The New York Times and Salon.
Erin Douglas has been tapped by the Houston Chronicle as a reporter on its business desk. She will cover general business reporting, with a focus on Houston’s biggest companies and corporate executives. Douglas is a former intern for Bloomberg, where she covered energy, and is currently completing a project for ProPublica's Electionland reporting project.
INSIDER has hired Ben Goggin as weekend editor covering news, business, finance, politics, internet culture and technology. He was previously the culture editor at Inverse, and news editor at Digg. Goggin has also worked as a freelance writer.
Lananh Nguyen is now a finance reporter for Bloomberg News covering Wall Street, Bank of America, wealth management and insurance companies, MetLife and Prudential. She has been with Bloomberg since 2010, when she joined the staff in London as a reporter covering oil. Before that, she spent five years as a markets reporter for Dow Jones.
Viviana Hurtado has joined Bloomberg Television as an on-air reporter covering global business, finance and the economy. She was previously a reporter for WTOL-TV (Toledo, OH) and has also worked for Al Jazeera, ABC News and MSNBC.
Fox-affiliated WSVN-TV in Miami has hired Ethan Calloway as a weekend morning anchor and reporter. He comes from WJXT-TV in Jacksonville, Florada, where he spent the last three years in the same capacity. Before that, he worked for KTUL-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and WAAY-TV in Huntsville, Alabama.
Courtney Schoenemann has been promoted to morning breaking news anchor and reporter at CBS-owned KEYE-TV in Austin, Texas. She was previously a reporter at the station and has been on staff since 2016. Before that, she reported for KCBY-TV and KMTR-TV, both in Eugene, Oregon.
WLNS-TV, the CBS affiliate station in Lansing, Michigan, has brought on Scot Chastain as vice president and general manager. He spent over 20 years working for the NBC Television Network where he held a number of senior level positions, most recently as an executive vice president, affiliate marketing and development across more than 240 NBC owned and network-affiliated television stations.
