Media Moves at AP & Barron's, Two Restaurant Critics Join LA Times
Elana Schor has joined the Associated Press as a political reporter covering the 2020 campaign; her first day was Dec. 3. She comes from Politico, where she covered Senate politics for the Congress team, including progressive groups’ influence on the Democratic agenda. She has also previously covered environmental politics and policy for Politico and E&E News, as well as Congress for The Guardian and The Hill.
The Los Angeles Times continues staffing its food section, and has welcomed two new restaurant critics:
- Bill Addison joins from Eater, where he spent the last four years as national food critic and traveled the country anonymously in search of the best new and classic restaurants. Before that he was the food editor/restaurant critic for Atlanta Magazine for five years, and the dining editor/restaurant critic for the Dallas Morning News for two years before that.
- Patricia Escárcega joins from The Arizona Republic, where she was a food writer. Before that she was the restaurant reviewer at the Phoenix New Times for three years.
Erik Siemers will join the St. Louis Business Journal as the editor on Dec. 10. He began his American City Business Journals career in Portland in 2008 as a reporter, and most recently served as the managing editor for the Portland Business Journal for five years. Before that, he reported for the Albuquerque Tribune for four years.
Marianne LeVine is now a congressional reporter at POLITICO covering the Senate. She previously covered lobbying and influence, and has been on staff since 2014 when she joined as labor reporter. Before that, she interned at the Los Angeles Times. LeVine is a graduate of Stanford University.
Barron's has hired Erin McCarthy as story editor. She was previously the deputy editor for the Long Island desk at Newsday Media Group, and before that spent almost six years at The Wall Street Journal as digital editor, and wealth management contributor to The Wall Street Journal Reports before that.
Current deputy managing editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tracy Brown, has been named managing editor of Chicago Public Media WBEZ-FM. She starts her new duties on Jan. 14. Before joining the Journal-Constitution in 2007, Brown was an editor at the Dallas Morning News.
Columbus Ledger-Enquirer newspaper reporter Chuck Williams is making the jump from newspapers to TV. Williams has joined WRBL-TV, the CBS-affiliated station in Columbus, Georgia, as digital content producer. He has spent 35 years in the newspaper industry, and has worked for The Anniston Star, Montgomery Advertiser, and Wiregrass Today.
Morning anchor Preston Phillips will exit CBS' KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Arizona, Dec. 7, to join Sinclair's KOMO-TV in Seattle, Washington, as an evening anchor. Phillips spent three years at KPHO-TV, and before that worked for KGTV-TV in San Diego, California, and KSEE-TV in Fresno, California.
KYW-AM radio in Philadelphia has promoted Kristina Hammerschmidt to news director, effective Nov. 19. She was previously a writer/editor at the staion, and joined the staff in February 2017. Prior to that, she worked as a producer and writer at WFMZ-TV and CBS 3 Philadelphia.
