Media Moves at WSJ & The Atlantic, New Editor Joins AP in Washington

Wall Street Journal reporter, Asa Fitch, has relocated to the San Francisco office of the paper to cover tech, including artificial intelligence and chipmakers. He was previously located at the Journal's Middle East bureau where he’s helped lead the way on coverage of Iran and Yemen. Fitch joined the paper in 2012 from The Nation. 

Also at The Wall Street Journal, reporter Benjamin Mullin has added cable television to his coverage, in addition to the media and advertising industry beats he has covered since he joined The Journal in October 2017. Before that, he spent two years at Poynter, initially as a staff writer, and eventually becoming the managing editor of the outlet. 

Ron Nixon will join the Associated Press in Washington, D.C., Jan. 2 as international investigations editor. He comes from the capital bureau of The New York Times, where he most recently covered homeland security as a correspondent. He had been with The Times since 2005, and before that worked for the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

CNN in Washington, D.C., will welcome Priscilla Alvarez in January as a reporter covering immigration policy and politics. She is currently wrapping up her duties as an assistant editor at The Atlantic, a position she has held since 2015. Before that, she spent a year at USA Today as collegiate correspondent. 

Eileen McDermott has been named editor in chief of IPWatchdog, the blog covering intellectual property law and intellectual property news. She has previously worked as an editorial consultant, as well as editor in chief at the International Trademark Association. 

The Atlantic  has hired Michael Owen as deputy editor of the digital team; he will start in late January 2019. He has been with The New York Times since July 2011 and helped invent, launch, and edit the NYT Now app. He was previously at The Los Angeles Times as a homepage producer and at HuffPost as managing editor.

John Hanson is the new program director at WCCO-AM radio in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and covers all major regional sports. He was previously the program director at KCSP-AM - 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City, and before that worked as an executive producer at 1500 ESPN Radio. 

Fox-affiliated KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has brought on Connor Hansen as a reporter. He comes from WPBN-TV in Traverse City, Michigan, where he spent the last two years as a multimedia journalist and weekend sports anchor.
