Media Moves at AP & Newsweek, New National Security Reporter at CNN
The Associated Press in Washington, D.C., has welcomed Brian Slodysko as money and politics reporter. He transitioned to his new position after spending three years at AP's Indianapolis, Indiana, bureau as a statehouse reporter. He joined the news service in 2015 from the Chicago Sun-Times, and has also reported for the Chicago Tribune and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Erica R. Hendry has been promoted to digital managing editor for PBS NewsHour, upped from digital news editor, a position she has held since she joined the outlet in January 2017. Before that, she was a multi-platform producer for NPR's "The Diane Rehm Show," and prior to that spent a year as a digital producer on Al Jazeera America's "America Tonight."
The audio team at the Washington Post has welcomed Allison Michaels as audio editor for politics. She will continue her role as the "Can He Do That?" podcast host. Michaels has been working closely with the audio team since the 2016 elections, when she helped launch and maintain a daily politics brief for smart speaker devices. She joined The Post in 2014 as mobile innovation producer and most recently served as projects editor at the paper. She also spent a year at U.S. News & World Report as travel editor.
Jamelle Bouie will join The New York Times Opinion as a columnist Jan. 21; he will be based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Most recently, he served as chief political correspondent for Slate, and before that worked for The Daily Beast and held fellowships at The American Prospect and The Nation magazine. His work has also appeared in The Washington Post, The New Yorker and The Virginia Quarterly Review. Bouie is also a political analyst for CBS News and regularly appears on the round table of “Face the Nation.”
CNN in Washington has hired Kylie Atwood as national security reporter. She comes from CBS News, where most recently she served as a State Department reporter. Atwood joined CBS in 2012 as the executive assistant to Bob Scheiffer, the executive producer of "Face the Nation."
Zach Schonfeld has exited Newsweek after five years at the magazine. He served as a senior writer covering culture and entertainment. Before that, he spent almost seven years at PopMatters. Schonfeld has also written for The Atlantic, Pitchfork, Noisey, New York Magazine, The A.V. Club, Rolling Stone, and others.
Fox Business Network has named Susan Li business correspondent covering financial breaking news. Li joined the network in April 2018, and since then has interviewed some of the most prominent names in business and economic policy, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. She has previously served as co-anchor of CNBC’s "Asia Squawk Box" and "Worldwide Exchange," where she covered global economic and political issues. Li has also hosted CNBC International’s "First Class," a luxury travel and lifestyle program.
Michael Adams has joined the South Florida Business Journal as managing editor. He has spent the last five years at the Austin American-Statesman, most recently as sports bridge editor. Before that, he had a brief stint as a design editor for Cox Media Group.
KABC-AM talk radio in Los Angeles has shuffled its afternoon drive staff to make room for Ben Shapiro's show, which now airs three hours, in the 3 p.m to 6 p.m. slot. That means PM drive hosts John Phillips and Jillian Barberie have moved to mornings to replace Doug McIntyre, who left the station not too long ago. Phillips and Barberie can now be heard on The Morning Drive weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
