Media Moves at Forbes & NYT, Senior Editor Exits Fashionista

Laurie Goodstein is the new deputy international editor at The New York Times. She has moved into her new role after covering religion for The Times for more than two decades. She joined the paper in 1997 as a religion correspondent, and before that spent eight years at the Washington Post.

Forbes magazine has hired its first full time diversity and inclusion writer, and promoted several staff expanding on coverage for ForbesWomen:

  • Maggie McGrath has been promoted to associate editor and will oversee editorial for ForbesWomen. She has been with Forbes since 2013, when she joined the staff as a writer. Since then she has been on the consumables beat and covered the food and drink industry; she has also edited the 30 Under 30 Food/Drink list since 2015 and the Just 100 list since 2017.
  • Chloe Sorvino is now a staff writer, and replaces McGrath on the consumables beat. She joined Forbes in 2014 and has been part of the Wealth team since then. As a freelancer, Sorvino has contributed to Yahoo! Finance and Women's Wear Daily.
  • Ruth Umoh has joined Forbes as a staff writer on the diversity and inclusion beat, the first full-timer on this beat at the outlet. She joins from CNBC, where she was a reporter on their leadership desk. Before that, she was a producer at Rolling Stone and a producer and writer for the New York Daily News.

After almost four years, Maura Brannigan has left Fashionista; her last day was Jan. 7. Brannigan most recently served as a senior editor at the blog, and joined the staff in 2015 from the now-defunct Lucky, where she worked as a digital fashion news writer. Prior to that, she worked for Marie Claire as an assistant digital editor.

NJBIZ has bid farewell to top editor Howard Burns, who exited the outlet in December after 13 months at the helm. He joined NJBIZ in November 2017 from the Pittsburgh Business Times, where he served as the editor. With his departure, come the following appointments:

  • NJBIZ has hired Linda Lindner as managing editor. She previously spent 12 years as a staff writer at Urner Barry Publications, and before that served as an editor at TFH Publications for five years.
  • Jeffrey Kanige has been named editor and will oversee editorial operations. Most recently, he served as editor for S&P Global Market Intelligence in New York. Before that, he was editor in chief for The Street and The Deal.

Jenna Tucker has been appointed digital director for Cumulus cluster WFMS-FM, WJJK-FM and WYRG-FM in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is a newly created position, where Tucker will manage the digital and social media platforms for the stations.  She will also be a mid-day on-air talent for WFMS-FM. Tucker comes from KNCI-FM in Sacramento, California, where she served as mid-day personality.

Fox-affiliated WDAF-TV in Kansas City, Missouri, has transitioned Rob Collins to sports as anchor and sports reporter. He has been with the station since 2012, and most recently served as a general news anchor/reporter. Before that, he spent seven years at WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois, as an anchor.
