Media Moves at Barron's & Politico, PBS to Launch a New Show
Barron's has welcomed back James Grant as a columnist, who will now write two columns a month for both print and digital. His return marks the reboot of The Current Yield column, which Grant had founded at the magazine previously. He worked for Barron's in the 1970s as a writer, and later launched Grant’s Interest Rate Observer, a highly regarded journal of the financial markets.
Connie Guglielmo has been named editor in chief of CNET. She is responsible for the overall editorial strategy of the outlet, the Live@CNET Q&A series, as well as CNET Magazine. Guglielmo was previously the editor in chief of CNET News and has been with CBS Interactive since 2014. Prior to that, she was the technology team editor at Forbes.
PBS has announced the launch of a new magazine show, "Retro Report on PBS," set to launch in the Fall. The weekly one-hour magazine format program will provide viewers with unique historical context to the top news stories of the day. It will be hosted by hosted by journalist Celeste Headlee, who is currently an NPR host; artist Masud Olufani and featuring New Yorker humorist Andy Borowitz.
Matt Thompson has been appointed editor in chief of The Center for Investigative Reporting and will begin his new duties on March 4. He He will succeed Kevin Sullivan, who has served as interim editor in chief since September 2018. Thompson is currently the executive editor of The Atlantic, where he oversees major editorial projects and new initiatives. Prior to that, he served as the deputy editor for the magazine and the director of vertical initiatives for NPR.
Politico has tapped Gary Fineout as the co-author of Florida Playbook. He comes from the Associated Press in Tallahassee, Florida, where he has covered politics and policy for seven years. Prior to that, he was the managing editor of Florida Tribune/The Florida Current, and a state government reporter for the Miami Herald.
Bryan Horwath has been hired by the Las Vegas Sun to cover gaming and business. He is a former Wichita Business Journal reporter, and has also previously worked as a real-time news reporter for the Wichita Eagle and for the Aberdeen News.
CBS affiliate WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, has hired two new investigative reporters:
- Danielle Waugh has joined the station as an investigative reporter after spending four years as a general assignment reporter for NECN, the regional cable news network based in the Boston market.
- AJ Walker has also joined the station as an investigative reporter. She was previously an executive producer at True Voice Media and Films and produced the Amazon Prime documentary film “Losing Detroit.” Before that, she was an investigative reporter for NBC News.
