Media Moves at the Washington Post & Real Clear Politics, New EIC at Chiropractic Economics
The Washington Post has reorganized its General Assignment team by hiring several reporters and moving staff around:
- Katie Mettler has joined the team, after working on The Post’s Google Amp Stories team for the past year. She joined the newsroom in April 2016 as a Morning Mix reporter, and wrote some of The Post’s most-read stories over the next year and a half. Before that, she worked at the Tampa Bay Times, first as a summer intern, then as a digital metro reporter.
- Reis Thebault has joined the General Assignment team after having spent the summer of 2017 as an intern on the investigative desk, where he reported and wrote stories and assisted with long-term projects.
- Michael Brice-Saddler has joined the team after spending the summer as an intern. Before that, he worked as a Washington bureau reporter for the University of Maryland’s Capital News Service, writing about local and national politics. He has also interned at the Baltimore Sun, SBNation and Vice Sports.
- Keith McMillan has been named the General Assignment team editor. He has been a GA deputy since August 2017, leading weekend and evening coverage. He has been with the paper for 12 years, and joined the staff as a night copy editor in Sports. From 2013 through his move to the GA desk in 2017, he served as a Sports assignment editor.
Philip Wegmann has joined Real Clear Politics as White House correspondent. He was most recently at the Washington Examiner where he spent two years as a commentary writer. Prior to that, he worked as a Congressional reporter for The Daily Signal and a writer for The Federalist.
Chiropractic Economics has named Rick Vach as editor in chief. He joins the magazine after 10 years with the United States Tennis Association-Florida Section. Vach is a former magazine publisher and was the international publications editor for the ATP World Tour. Chiropractic Economics, which underwent a rebranding in 2019, is the only independently-audited magazine requested by doctors of chiropractic and is voted the No. 1 publication by doctors.
Grete Suarez has joined Yahoo Finance as an associate producer. She was previously a segment producer at Fox Business’ “Cavuto: Coast to Coast.” Prior to that, she worked for AdvisorHub as a reporter, and interned at CNN International.
McClatchy has named Adam Smeltz executive editor of Centre Daily Times in State College, Pennsylvania, effective Feb. 18. Most recently, he worked for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where he was chosen for a National Press Foundation fellowship and later covered the Pittsburgh City Council. Smeltz started his career in journalism at Centre Daily Times, and also served as a news reporter in State College for about a decade.
