Media Moves at Forbes & NYT, Promotion at CBS Sports Radio Network
Forbes has made new hires to help expand tech coverage, and increase news coverage in the U.S. and Europe:
- Iain Martin moves to the London bureau of the magazine as a European news editor. He comes from Storyful, where he was an Asia editor, based in Hong Kong, China. Martin has spent time in London before, as a producer and chief reporter with Citywire.
- Past executive news director for Mic, Kerry Lauerman, will be signing on as executive director of news. Lauerman has been at the helm of multiple publications, including as co-founder and editor in chief of The Dodo, and editor in chief of Salon Media Group.
- Coming to the Los Angeles bureau of the magazine is Dawn Chmielewski, who will serve as senior editor of technology, media, and entertainment. She comes from Deadline Hollywood, where she also wrote about the intersection of technology and entertainment. Prior to that, Chmielewski has held the position of staff writer at Los Angeles Times, San Jose Mercury News, and the Orange County Register.
- Jillian D'Onfro, formerly with CNBC as a technology reporter, joins as a staff writer. She is based in the San Francisco bureau, and covers tech and artificial intelligence there. Before CNBC, D'Onfro was a reporter with business insider.
Crain's New York Business has named Tom Curtin as publisher. He most recently served as publisher for NJ Biz, and was previously publisher of The Bond Buyer and American Banker.
35 year Dow Jones veteran, Neal Lipschutz has been appointed deputy editor in chief of both The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires. During his time with Dow Jones, Lipschutz spent time as the managing editor, senior vice president and, most recently, standards and ethics editor.
CBS Sports Radio Network has upped David Mayurnik from executive producer to program director. He has been with the network since 2013, serving as newsroom operations manager for WCBS-AM, and a producer for the New York Yankees radio network.
Amanda Cox, who helped launch The Upshot blog at The New York Times in 2014, has been promoted to data editor for the online outlet. In this newly created role, Cox will continue to provide direction for reporting at The Upshot, while including insight from computer-assisted reporting, the NYT graphics team, and multiple news desks. The Upshot offers analysis and data visualizations about politics, policy, and everyday life in easy to understand language, while providing supporting data.
Detroit, Michigan Graham Media Group station, WDIV-TV, has promoted executive producer, Jennifer Wallace, to assistant news director. Wallace joined the station in 1997, starting as a producer.
Chris Lavoie re-joins WestwoodOne's syndicated Stephanie Miller Show as general manager of SM radio productions. Since Lavoie's first run on the show as executive producer ended in 2015, he has been with Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in California, serving as public relations manager. Prior to that, he was executive producer for KFYI-AM.
Tribune Broadcasting's WGN-AM in Chicago, Illinois, has promoted Dave Zaslowsky to manager and executive producer of WGN Sports Network. In his new role, he will oversee relations for all 15 affiliate stations for the network. Zaslowsky was previously handling White Sox baseball broadcasts on WGN as executive producer.
