Media Moves at Politico & Boston Business Journal, NYT Names Paris Bureau Chief

The New York Times has promoted Adam Nossiter to Paris bureau chief, upped from correspondent. He joined the International Desk in Paris in 2015 after six years as the West Africa bureau chief. He joined The Times in 2006 a correspondent, and before that spent three years at the Associated Press.

Joseph Schatz has been named managing editor at Politico overseeing editorial resource and operational issues. He will continue to oversee the States coverage as the editor. He joined Politico in 2015 as the editor of Politic Pro Europe Brief, after spending almost two years as the regional editor for the Monitor Global Outlook, a business-focused start-up published by the Christian Science Monitor.

The Boston Business Journal has tapped Lucia Maffei as a technology reporter covering startups, venture capital and tech in the Greater Boston. She previously covered Boston tech startups for BostInno for two years, and before that spent several months as a business desk intern at NPR.

Kiah Lau Haslett has joined Bank Director as managing editor. She comes form S&P Global Market Intelligence where she spent the last eight years as a bank reporter and wrote a variety of articles covering topics that affect U.S. financial institutions. Before that, she covered business schools for Bloomberg Businessweek.

The Wall Street Journal has recruited Jared Council as a reporter for The Journal’s Pro Artificial Intelligence newsletter. He was previously a reporter for the Indianapolis Business Journal where he covered the city’s emerging tech scene, including major tech job announcements, the dearth of venture capital, and efforts to increase women and minorities in tech. Before that, Council reported on banking and finance for Inside Business.

Ben Mutzabaugh is the new senior aviation editor for The Points Guy. In this newly created role, he will help spearhead TPG’s airlines coverage and in-depth reporting of the travel industry. He previously spent almost two decades at USA Today, most recently as the Today in the Sky bog editor and airline reporter. Before that, Mutzabaugh spent several years in media relations.

HLN has shuffled its anchor lineup for several of its shows:

·         Lynn Smith is now the anchor of “On The Story” airing Monday through Friday, noon to 2 p.m. ET. She was previously anchoring the “Weekend Express” show since 2014 and has been with HLN since 2013.

·         Susan Hendricks has moved to the “Weekend Express” desk as an anchor, replacing Lynn Smith. Hendricks is a veteran journalist at HLN, and most recently served as a fill-in anchor on the network’s daytime live news programs.

·         Mike Galanos will anchor a new program on HLN, airing from 2 – 3 p.m. called “True Crime Live.” It will focus on high profile court cases, mysteries and investigations, with expert guests and an eye toward helping authorities track down fugitives. Viewer involvement will be encouraged via a tip line. Galanos has been an HLN anchor since 2002.
