Media Moves at TIME & Fortune, New Metro Assignments at NYT

TIME magazine has appointed an editor at large and a contributor:

  • Anand Giridharadas has been named editor at large and a special correspondent. He is also an MSNBC analyst and visiting scholar at NYU, and has previously written for The New York Times and The International Herald Tribune. 
  • David French has joined the magazine to contribute columns and essays. He is also a senior writer at National Review, a lawyer, author, and Iraq war veteran. 

Lydia Belanger has been tapped by Fortune as a production editor for digital, where she builds articles and lists.  She was most recently a digital producer for Wired, and before that spent two years at Entrepreneur as associate editor where she wrote the weekly column The Way We Work. 

The New York Times has announced several new beat assignments on the Metro desk: 

  • Christina Goldbaum has shifted to covering immigration. She joined The Times in September 2018, and before that spent four years as a freelance foreign correspondent with print bylines in The New York Times, Foreign Policy Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Beast, The Economist, and others.  
  • David Goodman will cover money and politics, and will dig into campaign finance, lobbying, back-room deals and so much else on the city and state level. He has been on the City Hall beat since 2010 and has covered Mayor Bill de Blasio and his administration as well as New York City politics and its effects and influence on the national stage. Goodman has been with The Times since 2007. 
  • Andy Newman has moved to cover workplace life from the perspective of the workers themselves. He plans to embed with workers in a variety of the city’s industries in an effort to tell their stories. Newman has most recently helped relaunch New York Today, and has been with the paper since 2009. 
  • Sarah Maslin Nir is now a regional reporter covering New Jersey, Long Island, and Upstate. She has been on the Metro desk since 2009. 
  • Rick Rojas is back on Metro and now covers religion. He will focus on the sexual abuse scandals in the Catholic Church. Rojas joined The Times in 2014 from the Los Angeles Times. 
  • Ali Watkins, who joined Metro in the summer, has moved to police headquarters after a stint writing about social services. Watkins joined the paper in 2017, after working at Politico, BuzzFeed and HuffPost. 
  • Ali Winstonwho also joined Metro in the summer, has also shifted to the police headquarters beat. He has been with The Times since August 2018 and is the recipient of the 2017 George Polk award for local reporting for the series he produced in the East Bay Express about a sex-crime scandal in the Oakland Police Department. 

Peter Osborne has been recruited by the Delaware Business Times as its new editor. He spent the last decade working in the marketing and communications industry for a number of companies including Bank of America and Baylor Line Foundation. In the early 1990s he was part of the staff that created Business Monday in the News Journal. He joined the paper after serving as the editor of the Dallas and Southern Connecticut Business Journals and as a reporter at 10 other American City Business Journal papers. 

WLNG-FM radio in Sag Harbor, New York  has tapped Bill Evans as program director.  He is the longtime WABC-TV weather anchor who abruptly left the station earlier this year after being on air since 1989.
