Media Moves at Yahoo Finance & LA Times, Veteran Chicago Radio Programmer Announces Retirement
Yahoo Finance has hired two segment producers and an anchor:
- Sarah Smith has joined as segment producer and booker. She comes from NBC's "Today Show" where she worked for two years as show production associate.
- Marabia Smith has joined as segment producer and guest booker for "On The Move" segment. She was previously a broadcast associate for "CBS News This Morning" for two years.
- Akiko Fujita has joined as anchor and reporter. She was most recently at CNBC International where she served as the Hong Kong-based co-host of “Squawk Box Asia.” Before that, Fujita was a Tokyo-based correspondent for ABC News.
Brittany Hite has been tapped by the Los Angeles Times as a newsroom project manager for digital, where she oversees the content management system and digital workflow and processes. She most recently served as the digital editor at Barron's for less than a year, and before spent more than five years at The Wall Street Journal.
Marijuana Business Daily has recruited Howard Burns as editor in chief. He comes from NJBIZ / NJBIZ.com, where he spent two years as the editor. He previously led the newsrooms of the Pittsburgh Business Times as editor in chief, and MovingPicturesNetwork.com / Moving Pictures Magazine before that.
Ben Dooley has joined The New York Times Tokyo bureau as a correspondent, covering business and the economy. He most recently served as deputy news editor at Agence France-Presse, and before that reported for the newswires as correspondent for China and Mongolia.
Fox-owned WGHP-TV in High Point, North Carolina has promoted Aleksandra Bush to weekend evening anchor, upped from reporter. She joined the station 2016 from KAGS-TV in Texas, and before that worked as a booker for ABC7 Chicago's "Windy City LIVE."
Longtime talk radio programmer Peter Bolger will retire from the broadcasting business and WLS-AM radio in Chicago on March 15. He has been with the station since 2013 and has since served as operations manager and program director, and before that spent seven years as AM program director at WOAI-FM in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to that, he was the program director at WIOD-FM in Miami for a decade. Bolger 44-year radio career also took him through WZTA-FM in Florida and KGON-FM in Portland, Oregon.
