The Associated Press has named Ken Moritsugu Greater China news director. He will oversee reporters and photographers in the AP bureaus in Shanghai, Hong King and Taipei, Taiwan. Moritsugu joined the AP in 2007 as Asia enterprise editor, and most recently served as the news director for Japan and the Koreas. He started his journalism careers at The Japan Times in Tokyo, and later was a reporter for the St. Petersburg Times and Newsday.
Dani Blum will join The New York Times as a news assistant on the new parenting team at the end of April. She comes from Forbes, where she has been an assistant editor since November 2018. Before that, she was the managing editor of The Daily Pennsylvanian, the student newspaper of the University of Pennsylvania.
Chicago Sun-Times sports reporter Madeline Kenney has added the WNBA and the Chicago Sky basketball team to her coverage. She also occasionally covers the Cubs, White Sox, Blackhawks and college sports. Kenney has been with the paper since 2017 and joined the staff from NBC Sports Chicago.
Bill Conroy is the new managing editor of Seattle Business magazine. He comes from Sportsman Guide Media, where he served as editor in chief since 2015. Before that, Conroy was a freelance reporter for The Daily Beats and a senior investigative correspondent for Narco News. He also spent a decade as the editor in chief of the San Antonio Business Journal.
The San Antonio Express-News has hired Randy Diamond as energy and manufacturing reporter covering oil and gas companies, energy exploration, CPS Energy, and major manufacturers like Toyota. He was previously a metro desk reporter for The New York Daily News, a state government reporter for The Record in Northern New Jersey, the insurance and banking issues reporter for The Palm Beach Post and the business of tourism writer for The Tampa Tribune.
Kristina Stewart Ward has been named editor in chief of Avenue magazine. She is a veteran of Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Hamptons and Quest and replaces Michael Gross, who left the title when the magazine’s new owner, Michael S. Cohen, took over. Avenue magazine is currently being redesigned.
The Journal Record in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has added two new reporters:
· Steve Metzer has joined the staff as capitol reporter. He is a former reporter and city editor of The Lawton Constitution and had been with the paper since 1986.
· Daisy Grant has joined the staff as energy and aerospace reporter. She comes from Tinker Take Off, the official newspaper for Tinker Air Force Base, where she spent none months as a reporter.
WAGA-TV, the Fox station in Atlanta, has added a new hour of “Good Day Atlanta” at 10 a.m., effective April 15. The show now runs from 4:30 – 11 a.m. The new hour will be led by Sharon Lawson and Katie Beasley, alongside meteorologist Joanne Feldman.
