Media Moves at ProPublica & Skift, Barron’s Loses Top Editor
After almost two years at the helm of Barron’s editor in chief Katherine Bell has left the publication to pursue other opportunities. Executive editor Bob Rose now oversees the print and digital magazine while a search for a new editor is underway. Bell joined Barron’s in 2017 from Harvard Business Review, and during her tenure oversaw the integration of the newsroom’s print and digital operations, including the launch if podcasts and the prize-winning newsletter Preview & Review.
CNBC will welcome Grace Shao as a digital reporter based in Singapore; she starts in June. She most recently worked as a reporter and sub anchor at CGTN in Beijing, and before that reported on technology for S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Tom Lowry has been promoted to editor in chief of Skift, upped from managing editor. He is a former senior editor of CNBC.com and helped build the enterprise news desk. He has also previously worked for The Daily, Variety, and BusinessWeek.
The Wall Street Journal has brought Kevin McAllister to the newly expanded strategy team as a rankings data reporter. He will focus on structured data, rankings, interactive tools, and automation. McAllister was most recently on The Journal’s audience and analytics team and worked on video strategy. He has been on staff since May 2017.
The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, Louisiana has hired Brett Blackledge as executive editor. He was previously a regional investigations editor in Florida for USA Today Network, and before that spent two years at the Naples Daily News as investigations editor. Blackledge has also reported for the Associated Press and the Birmingham News.
Hilary Krieger has joined NBC News Digital as news editor for the Think opinion section. She comes from FiveThirtyEight where she spent the last two years as senior editor and expanded the scope and depth of coverage of the Trump administration, Congress, Supreme Court, criminal justice, immigration, identity politics and foreign policy topics. Prior to that, she worked for CNN as enterprise editor, and Politico as deputy White House editor before that.
ProPublica has named Marilyn Thompson the founding editor of ProPublica’s D.C. initiative. She most recently served as senior editor at the outlet and oversaw ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network. Prior to that, she was a deputy editor for the Washington Post, a deputy editor for Politico, and a Washington, D.C., bureau chief for Reuters.
Keith Moyer, the music director and on-air talent at WZZO-FM in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, has moved from mornings to afternoons, and debuted “The Keith Show” heard on-air from 3 – 7 p.m. The move comes after the passing of morning co-host Kevin Schutts in late February.
WGCL-TV, the CBS affiliate in Atlanta, Georgia, has hired Jamie S. Kennedy as multimedia journalist and reporter. He spent the last two years at KCEN-TV as a reporter and fill-in anchor, and before that worked for Inside Editor as story coordinator.
Longtime Dallas anchor Richard Ray has retired from TV news after 50 years in the industry. He has spent the last 36 years at Fox’s KDFW-TV and his last on-air appearance was on April 21. He anchored the station’s 6 and 9 p.m. newscasts on Saturdays and 5 and 9 p.m. newscasts on Sunday.
