McClatchy has named Kristin Roberts vice president of news, the first woman to hold this position at the company. She will lead a newly expanded News group which encompasses of 30 newsrooms across 14 states, as well as news operations and McClatchy Studios, the company's long-form audio and video documentary production unit. Roberts was most recently the regional editor for the East region at McClatchy and has been on staff since 2017. Before that she was the national editor at POLITICO, where she guided all coverage of the 2016 presidential race.
Rachel Dry, the current editor of The New York Times Sunday Review will join the paper’s politics team as the deputy politics editor for enterprise. She has led the Sunday Review since 2016 and joined The Times in 2015 as opinion staff editor. Before coming to New York, she spent nine years at The Washington Post, where she was the deputy editor of Outlook and the features editor in Style. Before that, she worked on the editorial staff of “All Things Considered” at NPR.
The Washington Post investigative team has welcomed Aaron Williams as data reporter. He will focus on mining data for investigative angles, and reporting and writing on what he has found. Williams most recently spent three years at The Post’s graphics department as graphics reporter where he helped visualize important news stories. Before joining The Post in 2016, Williams was the interactive editor at the San Francisco Chronicle and before that, a news applications developer for the Center for Investigative Reporting.
Jeremy Hill now covers bankruptcy, distressed debt, and companies that might be headed to bankruptcy as a reporter on the distressed debt team at Bloomberg News. He was most recently a rotating reporter for the newswires and joined the staff in 2018. Before that, he was a real estate intern at Bloomberg News.
The Wall Street Journal has named Niharika Mandhana Southeast Asia bureau chief for WSJ’s Singapore bureau. She will lead a team of correspondents, roving from Indonesia and the Philippines to Myanmar. Mandhana was previously a Hong Kong correspondent for the paper and joined The Journal in New Delhi, India, in 2013.
Monie Love is the new afternoon host at WALR-FM radio in Atlanta; she can be heard weekdays from 2 – 7 p.m. Love most recently hosted middays at Urban One’s WTLC-FM in Indianapolis. She served as co-host to Ed Lover’s Reach Media syndicated morning show until it was cancelled at the end of 2017. Before that she hosted mornings for WRNB-FM and WPHI-FM in Philadelphia and had a show on XM Satellite Radio.
Brandon ‘Buster’ Satterfield has been appointed program director at WIOQ-FM radio in Philadelphia, effective June 17. He comes from WFLZ-FM in Tampa, Florida, where he served as APD/afternoon host since May 2018 and has previously worked in Philadelphia at WRDW-FM where he hosted nights then afternoons and was eventually promoted from APD/MD to his first program director role.
Famed national meteorologist Sam Champion has returned to Disney WABC as a weather anchor on its weekday morning and noon newscasts. He started June 3 and is expected to also contribute to ABC News. Champion was most recently the managing editor at The Weather Channel, a position he had held since 2013. He was a weather anchor at WABC between 1988 and 2006 before moving to ABC News’ “Good Morning America.”
New York’s WABC-TV anchor Diana Williams has announced she is leaving her anchor job in September. She will retire after 29 years at WABC and 40 years in broadcast journalism. She joined the Eyewitness News Team in 1991. Before that, she worked at WNEV-TV in Boston and started her career at WBTV-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina.
