Media Moves at The New York Times & ABC Radio, Entertainment Weekly to Reduce Print Issues

The New York Times has announced several internal editorial moves across several bureaus and the New York newsroom:

·         Neil MacFarquhar will head to the paper’s Manhattan office as a criminal justice reporter later this year. He is currently the bureau chief in Moscow and has been with The Times since 1995 when he joined Metro covering Newark. He moved to Cairo in 2001, and five years later moved to the San Francisco bureau.

·         Jennifer Medina has moved to the Politics desk at the Los Angeles bureau after a run as a correspondent on the National desk. She joined The Times in 2004 as a metro reporter and has served as Harford bureau chief and education reporter.  

·         Mark Getzfred, a longtime editor on National has moved to the News Desk as editor. He has been with the paper since 1999 and since then has overseen several news desks. In the last three years he has led breaking news on the National desk.

·         Alan Blinder will start covering college sports as a correspondent this summer and will remain in the Atlanta bureau. He has been with The Times since 2013 and has previously reported for The Washington Examiner.  

·         Amy Julia Harris has joined The Times as Metro’s first investigative reporter. She most recently served as a reporter at Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting. She has also previously served as education reporter at The Charleston Gazette in West Virginia and has also written for The Seattle Times.

Stacia Philips Deshishku has been promoted to VP and general manager of all of audio content at ABC Radio. She has served as an interim VP and GM since Steve Jones’s exit in March. She has been with ABC News since 2014, when she joined as Washington deputy bureau chief after spending most of her career at CNN.

ALM Media has hired Samantha Stokes as a reporter for American Lawyer and other ALM publications. She is on the business of law desk and covers legal malpractice and bankruptcy.  Stokes comes from the Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting and has also written for the ST. Louis Post-Dispatch, Missouri Business Alert and the Columbia Missourian.  

Cointelegraph, the site covering cryptocurrency, blockchain, decentralized applications and internet financing, has recruited Jee Abbey Lee is features editor.  She is also the owner of Common Hour Media, where she provides a complete range of communication services for companies in the industries of the future. Lee is also a former Washington reporter for BBC and has also worked for Voice of America.

Meredith Corp has announced that Entertainment Weekly will publish its last weekly issue on June 25 and will become a monthly publication in August. The new title will be led by JD Heyman, who has replaced Henry Goldblatt as editor. EW will continue to produce weekly digital covers.
