After two years on the personal finance and travel beats at Business Insider, David Slotnick has been promoted to senior airline reporter and now covers aerospace, airlines and aviation. Slotnick previously wrote about travel-specific credit cards that offer perks, points and miles for the Personal Finance Insider and Insider Picks verticals and has been with Business Insider since 2017. Prior to that, he was a freelance writer and his work has appeared in Upgraded Points, The Points Guy, and other outlets.
The Washington Post has announced two promotions in video:
· Jayne Orenstein has become senior producer, special projects and oversees The Post’s video editors embedded with the paper’s new travel vertical, By The Way. In the past two years Orenstein has led the efforts in emerging video technology as video producer. She joined the paper in 2011.
· Jesse Mesner-Hage has become senior producer, original video, overseeing political coverage for the video reporter team. He joined The Post in May 2017 as a commissioning editor and worked on the 2018 midterm elections. Prior to The Post he worked for Al Jazeera for eight years.
Julia Fioretti is the new Hong Kong-based reporter for Bloomberg covering equity capital markets. She comes from Reuters where she spent the last six years first as an EU correspondent in Brussels, and most recently as the Asia capital markets correspondent covering debt and equity capital markets in Hong Kong.
SevenFifty Daily has hired Joseph Hernandez as senior editor covering the business and culture of the beverage alcohol industry and its three tiers. He started July 10. Most recently, he served as senior travel editor for Thrillist and prior to that, deputy food editor of the Chicago Tribune and senior associate editor at Wine Enthusiast. SevenFifty Daily is an online magazine about the business and culture of the beverage alcohol industry.
Vandana Sinha has been named editor in chief of the Washington Business Journal. She is a longtime WBJ staffer and joined the team in 2006 as a reporter on the biotech, health and energy beats. She later shifted to the editing desk, serving as assistant managing editor and then managing editor as of June 2016. Prior to WBJ, Sinha spent three years at the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at the American Press Institute as a project manager/associate editor.
Yahoo Finance has tapped Anjalee Khemlani as a reporter. She most recently served as the deputy managing editor at ROI-NJ and covered business news in New Jersey. Prior to that she worked at NJBIZ as deputy managing editor and has also freelanced for SheThePeople.TV, an India-based female-focused news website.
David Fuchs has joined KUER-FM, the public radio station in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a reporter covering Southwest Utah. He was previously a freelance audio producer and reporter and built audio assemblies and shaped scripts of the "Mobituaries," a podcast from CBS News, and reported for NPR on South African anti-poaching tactics and training practices.
After more than 40 years in radio, Michigan radio “Stateside” host Cynthia Canty has announced her retirement, effective at the end of 2019. Canty has hosted “Stateside” for seven years during which she conducted more than 7000 interviews. She was previously a news anchor on the Jim Harper’s show on WNIC, WDTX, and WMGC in Detroit and has also hosted and anchored at WKBD-TV in Detroit.
