The New York Times has announced the following staff moves and newsroom additions:
· Lara Jakes has become correspondent covering diplomacy, the State Department, national security and foreign policy. She was most recently the Washington bureau foreign policy editor and has been with The Times since 2017. Before that, Jakes was the deputy managing editor and then managing editor for news at Foreign Policy magazine. She has also worked for more than 12 years at The Associated Press, including three in Iraq, where she served as Baghdad bureau chief in 2012.
· Marc Tracy has joined the Business desk as a reporter on the media industry beat. He comes from the Sports team, where he covered college sports for five years. Before joining The Times in 2014, Tracy was on staff at The New Republic.
· Davey Alba has joined the paper as a technology reporter covering disinformation. She most recently was at BuzzFeed News, where she reported and wrote about A.I. as part of a broader beat on the invasive effects of tech into our lives. Alba has also covered tech for Wired, Popular Mechanics and Gizmodo.
Cynthia Koons has shifted to an enterprise reporter at Bloomberg News and will continue to cover the healthcare space. She will write longer form pieces on the healthcare sector, a beat she has covered since 2014 when she joined Bloomberg as a senior reporter. Before that, Koons covered mergers and acquisitions for The Wall Street Journal, and wrote on investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, the retail and gaming sectors in Australia for Dow Jones Newswires.
InStyle’s fashion news director Eric Wilson will relocate to China later in August and will transition into an editor at large role. He plans on covering fashion from a different perspective but also plans to write travel pieces for other publications. Wilson is a well-known fashion critic, and before joining Time Inc., now Meredith, in 2013, he was a reporter and fashion critic on the Styles desk at The New York Times for nine years.
Jay Peters has joined The Verge as a news writer. He comes from Techmeme where he spent two years as an editor and wrote breaking news regarding earning release reports, IPOs, and other urgent announcements. Prior to that, Peters was a senior account executive at WE Communications.
The Business Record in Des Moines, Iowa has hired Emily Barske as an associate editor. She comes from the Marshalltown Times-Republican, where she spent a year as a news editor. Barske is a 2018 graduate of Iowa State University and served as the editor in chief of the Iowa State Daily, the school’s student newspaper.
Yonni Rude is the new operations manager for Radio One in Cleveland, Ohio, which includes WENZ-FM, WERE-AM, WJMO-AM, and WZAK-FM rario cluster. Rude comes from sister cluster in Detroit, Michigan, where he was the OM of WGPR-FM, WDMK-FM and WDMK-HD2. Previously he spent almost three years as OM of Radio One in Richmond, Virginia.
