Media Moves at The Wall Street Journal & Forbes, Meredith Sells Money, Shuts Down Family Circle

The Wall Street Journal Technology bureau in San Francisco has announced the addition of several new staff, some of whom are relocating to the West Coast from other bureaus of The Journal:

·         Bradley Olson will join the staff later this year as an editor. He spent the past four years covering big oil companies for The Journal and has broken news on a wide array of topics. Olson joined the paper in 2015 as national energy correspondent and has also worked for Bloomberg, the Houston Chronicle and the Baltimore Sun.

·         Preetika Rana is the new tech and transportation reporter, covering Uber and Lyft and the ways that technology and entrepreneurs are changing how people and stuff move around. She has covered health from Hong Kong since 2016. Previously, Rana covered business for the Journal in India. She will relocate to San Francisco later this year.

·         Aaron Tilley has joined the bureau to cover Microsoft and business technology. His beat includes Salesforce and Oracle and how technologies such as cloud computing and AI are changing the way business is done. He comes from the Information and previously covered semiconductors and artificial intelligence for Forbes.

Meredith Corporation has closed on the sale of the Money brand to Ad Practitioners LLC, a portfolio of digital brands, including ConsumersAdvocate.org.  The sale includes the Money.com website. Meredith acquired the Money brand as part of its January 2018 acquisition of Time Inc. After a portfolio analysis, Meredith decided to sell non-core properties. Assets sold to date have included the TIME, Fortune and Sports Illustrated brands, in addition to some international holdings.

Maneet Ahuja has joined Forbes as small business senior editor. She was most recently a senior editor for CNBC and had been with the network for almost 12 years.  Ahuja is a member of the Forbes “30 Under 30” for media and has previously contributed to the magazine on global leaders, billionaires and tech scions.

Karla Partilla is now the VP and publisher of Allrecipes and Rachael Ray Every Day. She added responsibility for Allrecipes as well as the recently announced Rachael Ray Every Day consumer-driven title. Partilla joined Meredith as publisher of Allrecipes in 2018.

After almost 90 years on newsstands, Family Circle magazine will cease publication after the December 2019 issue. Launched in 1932, the magazine was acquired by Meredith in 2005 from publishing house Gruner + Jahr USA.  Published monthly, Family Circle offered women information on what need to make personal and home improvements and maintain healthy family relations. It had a circulation of 4 million.
