Media Moves at Barron’s & The Wall Street Journal, Newsy Announces Several New Hires

Newsy, the next-generation video news network, has announced several new hires:

  • Amber Strong has joined Newsy as a reporter on the politics team, covering the 2020 election with a focus on health care. She comes from CBN News, where she worked as a White House correspondent. Previously, Strong has worked at MSNBC and WTHR, a local NBC affiliate in Indianapolis, Indiana.
  • Alex Zuckerman has been named senior coordinating editor. She oversees futures planning, as well as daily editorial coordination. She came to Newsy from CBSN, where she helped launch the streaming network for CBS News in New York before moving to Washington, D.C., to field produce and book guests.
  • Sasha Ingber has joined Newsy as a reporter on the politics team, focusing on election security. She was previously at NPR, where she reported on major national and international stories. Ingber has also worked at the U.S. State Department, monitoring and debunking Russian disinformation.
  • Terace Garnier has joined the staff as a reporter. She was previously a reporter at WPBF-TV in West Palm Beach and has also worked at Fox News.

Brian Price is a new senior producer at Barron’s and the “MarketBrief” new video show. He was most recently a booking producer for Cheddar and prior to that had a brief stint as an executive producer at Real Vision. Price has also worked at CNBC and Bloomberg before that.

The Wall Street Journal has welcomed Deborah Acosta as a reporter for a new digital magazine launching in early 2020. She has previously worked as a reporter/producer at The New York Times and a public insight analyst at The Miami Herald. Acosta has also freelanced for the Sun-Sentinel and interned for Dow Jones Newswires before that.

Paul Rivera has joined WESH-TV, the NBC station in Orlando, Florida, as a news reporter.  He was previously a reporter at WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina, where he covered hurricanes Florence, Michael and Dorian. Before that, Rivera reporter on devastating tornadoes for KLTV in East Texas.

Country radio WIRK-FM in West Palm Beach, Florida, has added Garrett Phillips as a producer of the “Tim and Chelsea” morning show. He has been with the Hubbard Radio cluster since January 2019, most recently producing local radio broadcast for News Talk WFTL-AM. Prior to that, Phillips spent three years at Alpha Media USA as board operator.

Jeff Dean, the University of Arizona football and men’s basketball PA announcer, has joined KFFN-AM radio, the ESPN station in Tucson, Arizona, as a morning host of his own namesake show. Dean is a former host at KGME-AM Fox radio and KQFN-AM in Phoenix.
