Media Moves at Washington Post, Goop & NYT Cooking, Harper’s Bazaar Hires Three Top Editors

Genevieve Ko will join The New York Times Oct. 19 as senior editor for NYT Cooking. She comes from the Los Angeles Times where she served as the cooking editor. Simultaneously, Ko was working on cookbooks and other projects, and published her first solo book, "Better Baking," in 2016.  She has been an editor at several magazines, too, Gourmet, Good Housekeeping and Martha Stewart Living among them.

Harper's Bazaar has tapped three top editors for its editorial team:

  • Leah Chernikoff has joined as executive editor. She was most recently the head of content at Glossier/Into The Gloss, and before that served as Elle.com’s digital director for six years.
  • Laura Genninger is the new creative director at the magazine and starts Nov. 1. She has previously served as art director at Another Man and art director at i-D and Atmos.
  • Kaitlyn Greenidge will join the staff Nov. 1 as features director across all platforms. She has previously written The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Elle, and Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter.

Elise Loehnen, the chief content officer of Goop, has left her role. She is taking a sabbatical to write a book but will continue to act as Goop’s editor at large and will also remain on board as a contributor and cohost of episodes of the Goop podcast. Loehnen has been at Goop since 2014 and before that held editorial position at Conde Nast Traveler, Lucky Magazine and Time Out New York.

The Washington Post will welcome Lily Kuo as China bureau chief later this year. She starts Dec. 14 and will be located in Beijing. She is currently the Beijing bureau chief for The Guardian and has reported nearly nonstop from China since the pandemic began in January. Kuo has been covering China for most of the last decade after first moving to Beijing in 2008. Since then she has reported for Reuters, from Washington and New York; and for Quartz, from New York, Hong Kong and Nairobi.

"The News with Shephard Smith," which debuted Sept. 30 on CNBC, has hired one producer and promoted another:

  • Emily DeCiccio has joined as producer for the show. She was most recently the executive producer and showrunner of "Couched with Carson Kressley" on the Design Network, and before that worked for Fox News and NBC News.
  • Paul McNamara is now a senior producer for the show. He was most recently the California bureau chief at CNBC and supervised the West Coast editorial and production operations for the network.

Steve Dent has joined WNDX-FM rock radio station in Indianapolis, Indiana, as a morning host. He succeeds Abe Kanan, who exited in June. Dent was most recently PD and on-air personality for iHeartMedia modern rock WZDA-FM and classic rock WTUE-FM in Dayton, Ohio.

WXTU-FM radio in Philadelphia has moved Charlie Maxx to the 12 to 3 p.m. slot, while PD Mark Razz shifts to 10-12 p.m.  Maxx was also named assistant program director and production director, and has been with the station since 2018.
