The Top 50 Social Media Influencers on Twitter

Top 50 Social Media Influencers - Featured

Top 50 lists serve multiple purposes beyond just giving kudos where it’s deserved. As Cision’s social media manager, I use top 50 and top 100 lists for three purposes:

  • To follow individuals who will help me stay in the loop when new trends and statistics emerge within my industry
  • For content generation and syndication
  • To figure out which handles to target when I launch ads on Twitter

Every year, Cision creates a list of the top 50 social media influencers on Twitter.

Our media research team pulled various lists of social media mavens on Twitter using Cision’s proprietary algorithm which looks for contextual relevancy, engagement levels, key terms and reach, among other components.

After personally vetting the lists, I’m happy to present to you our top 50, listed alphabetically.

  • Mack Collier

Shirien thanks so much for including me!

    • Cision

Of course! So well deserved! Thanks, Mack.

  • http://dconsortium.wordpress.com/ John Kerr

I congratulate you for taking the effort to pull this together and everyone on the list – they are all very influential and interesting to read. But the list feels very much like a “World Championships” awarded for a game only play in North America. With 35% of Twitter users in Asia, 16% in Europe, 12% in LatAm – versus 22% in North America. Surely a global company like Cision might be able to identify a couple based somewhere else?

    • Cision

Hi John, yes this blog post focused primarily for our North American audience in mind. We have our other locations across the world create similar lists who concentrate mainly in their local as well!

Any chance you’ve created a public Twitter list of these people?

  • http://warrenwhitlock.com/social-media-expert Warren Whitlock

I always come out lower than @jaybaer. Dang that Alphabet!

    • Cision

haha, next time we may try reverse alphabetical. 🙂

  • http://TomJustin.com Tom Justin

A stellar group, no doubt. However, after watching Warren Whitlock for years and seeing him in the Forbes top 10 influencers in social media, I suspect he is deserving of a much higher rank. : )

    • Cision

Hi Tom! Yes, he’s great! The list is alphabetical. It’s in no way saying he is #50 in terms of influence! 🙂

  • wshee

Shirien, thank you for including me on this list wiht so many people that I greatly respect and admire. It’s a real delight that this post will appear just above Warren’s. He’s a great guy and someone who I very much enjoy meeting with FTF and interacting with on the Internet.

    • Cision

Of course, Jeff. I have admired your drive and hustle since the first time I heard you speak at a conference. You definitely deserve the recognition! Thanks for your kind words! – Shirien

  • Victoria Waje

Great list! I’m sure you really spent time making this list. I only know like 40% of them. I just wonder now which tools they’re using to schedule their tweets or if they’re even using one. Great ideas pop up when you least expect it like 2 am perhaps. Love this post that I want to share with you – Top 50 Social Media Tools http://www.intelligenthq.com/social-media-posts/intelligent-top-50-social-media-tools-part-1/ this might help because for me, it increased my productivity by 50%.
