'Tis the season for conferences and expos. September offers a number of unique trainings and events for journalists and bloggers. Check out the list below to find the right event for you, whether you're looking to learn more about freelancing, finance writing, social media, or travel content creation.;/
Sept. 2-4: Playlist Live
Playlist Live is the “perfect setting to get inspired, make new friends and learn about the future of digital video and social media.” With the Insight and Industry tracks, attendees will learn about the ins and outs of creating content and/or the business side of things. The 2022 event will again take place in Orlando, Florida.
Sept. 6: Level Up: Critical Skills for Local Reporters (*application deadline)
This interactive, virtual training from Poynter will take place throughout October and November. You’ll attend weekly master-class sessions and receive career skill advice and training. Learn skills to boost your reporting expertise and propel your career forward. Attendees will hone their skills in a variety of areas, including narrative writing, investigative reporting, audience growth and building a relationship with their editor.
Sept. 7 and 8: Freelancing with Tim
Tim Hererra's popular workshops are returning, with two options in early September.
- September 7: How to start and grow a newsletter. Learn the ins and outs of building a successful newsletter
- September 8: Pitch perfect: Everything to know about pitching stories. Sign up for this workshop "for a discussion on strengthening your pitches, finding the right places to pitch your stories, how to follow up with editors, and much more."
Sept. 7-10: FinCon
FinCon is where “personal finance content creators and brands create better content, reach their audience, and make more money.” Money nerds in the blog, podcast, freelance, and influencer spaces will head to Orlando, Florida, for several days of educational sessions and networking opportunities. TedTalk-style presentations will be available, in addition to nearly 70 breakout sessions for tracks like Money Conversations, Video, Social Media, Freelancing, Entrepreneurship, and more. Plus, there will be optional field trips to the Magic Kingdom and Universal Studios!
Sept. 7-13: 7in7 Digital Nomad Conference
If you've been working as a digital nomad for at least a year, the 7in7 conference could be the perfect one for you. This event is limited to 50 attendees and there are only a few spots left, so sign up now! The small size lets attendees connect with speakers and have a more engaging experience. The event takes place in Montreal, Quebec.
Sept. 16-18: Bloggy Conference
Top content creators, influencers, bloggers, creators, and game-changers will be heading to the 2022 Bloggy Conference for a weekend of networking, learning, and fun. The event will take place at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. It's presented by the Bloggy Moms community, but anyone interested in blogging and social media is welcome to attend.
Sept. 19-20: Digital Travel US
Head to San Diego for this gathering of digital travel leaders looking to the future of the industry. The long lineup of speakers already includes leaders from Expedia, United Airlines, MGM, Legoland, and more.
Sept. 19-23: Readability Writing Master Class
While this course is technically designed for corporate communications pros, it can be useful for any journalists or bloggers looking to tighten up their writing, avoid jargon, and write easy-to-understand and concise pieces that will keep readers engaged for longer.
Sept. 21-24: ONA22
The Online News Association’s annual conference “brings together the latest innovation in audience engagement, news product development, forecasting trends and digital business strategy.” Digital journalists will be able to choose from unique sessions in a variety of tracks: audience development and metrics, emerging technology, innovative news storytelling, leadership and culture, and product and revenue strategies. The in-person event will take place in Los Angeles, but attendees can also choose to take part remotely.
Sept. 27-29: Traffic & Conversion Summit
For bloggers looking to turn their content into a profitable business, check out the Traffic & Conversion Summit. With remote and in-person options available, attendees will learn tested, proven tactics to increase traffic, conversions, and sales.
Sept. 29-Oct. 1: Wine Media Conference
This year’s conference for wine writers and social media influencers will head to Europe and be held at Lake Garda in Lombardia in northern Italy. Due to COVID-19, this year’s event will be smaller, so register early! Topics will cover wine podcasting, sustainable winemaking, wine writing, and more.
Sept. 30-Oct. 1: Pinners Conference (Texas)
DIYers and craft-focused content creators will head to Fort Worth, Texas, for this Pinners Conference. Weaving, holiday decor, henna art, and bath bomb making are just a few of the many workshops available to attendees.
Oct. 7: Alt Summit
Creative entrepreneurs, bloggers, pinners, and influencers will be heading to the Alt Summit, which is teaming up with The Riveter, an organization focused on supporting women in the workplace. Attendees are "looking for opportunities to follow their passion, find meaningful work, and contribute positively to the world." This year's event will take place at Pier Sixty in New York City.
