February 14th. Whether you love it or hate it, one thing is for sure: Valentine’s Day means more pictures of couples flooding your feed.
If you’re considering posting a cute, new photo of you and your boo this weekend or planning to photograph a couple for your blog, we’ve compiled a few suggestions to help you do just that.
1. Wear Complementary Clothing
Pick outfits that make you feel good, match in terms of formality, and just go well together. You want to strike that perfect balance between wearing completely unrelated outfits and looking like Britney and Justin circa 2001. 2. Go Easy on the PDA
Most people don’t want to see a full on make-out shot. Instead, show your closeness with an almost kiss, posing forehead to forehead, or a kiss on the cheek.
3. Similar Expression
Make sure you’re both conveying the same emotion. If one person is more pensive and romantic while the other is laughing, it can feel a bit awkward.
4. Interact with each other
Get a cute candid by engaging with each other and having fun. Keep it simple with just walking together hand-in-hand or take it up a notch by picking each other up or even dancing.
5. Be yourselves
If you’re the goofy couple, be goofy. If you’re more of the quiet and reserved type, then showcase that part of your personalities. When thinking about the overall tone of the photos, you’ll also want to consider things like location and personal styling to fit the mood you’re going for.
6. Share the spotlight
No one should always be the sidekick, i.e. the one always giving you the kiss on the cheek or looking at you lovingly. Take turns being the focal point or, better yet, do more 50/50.
7. Take a step back
If you’re farther away from the camera to get the backdrop in the frame – no need to smile at the camera. Get a nice silhouette or look at each other for that fairy-tale photo.
8. Hire a pro
When in doubt, hire someone to take photos of you and your boo. Talk with your photographer about the things you enjoy doing together and what you have in mind to get the most out of your session.
