The Cut has hired Joanna Nikas as deputy style editor. She oversees the site’s fashion vertical, including all fashion and beauty coverage. For the past ten years, Nikas was a senior staff editor at The New York Times, responsible for editing and assigning stories for its fashion and style sections.
Melissa León has joined Vulture as movies editor. She runs the site’s day-to-day film coverage, assign, and edit stories around new movie releases, and help manage coverage of the industry and culture around film. Prior to joining Vulture, she was entertainment editor at The Daily Beast, a role she held for five of her nearly ten years there, in which she wrote, and edited features and investigations focused on film, TV, comics, and more.
USA Today reporter Rick Rouan has moved to the paper's breaking news team to cover politics. He was most recently a fact checker and has been at USA Today since February 2021. Prior to that, Rouan spent eight years at Dispatch Media Group and held various positions, including politics reporter, City Hall reporter, and transportation reporter.
Summer Cartwright has joined StyleCaster as e-commerce editor. She previously worked at Meredith Corporation across brands as an e-commerce writer for InStyle, Real Simple, and Food & Wine. Before that, Cartwright was a lifestyle and e-commerce reporter for Yahoo! News.
The Boston Globe has welcomed Taylor Dolven as transportation reporter. She most recently covered tourism for the Miami Herald and before that spent four years at VICE Media as a reporter for "Vice News" and a researcher for "Vice on HBO." Dolven has also worked for WOBI and The Argentina Independent in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
George Papajohn has joined ProPublica as senior editor and helps edit projects from the national newsroom and ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network. Papajohn comes to ProPublica from BuzzFeed News, where he served as an investigative editor and helped edit the FinCEN Files series. Before that, Papajohn was associate managing editor for investigations at the Chicago Tribune.
Erin Cunningham has been named evening editor on the Foreign Desk at the Washington Post, steering breaking-news coverage. She begins her new duties on September 20, after she re-locates from Istanbul to Washington. Cunningham joined The Post in 2014 as a correspondent in Cairo, reporting extensively from Egypt and Iraq. She moved to Istanbul in 2016, covering Turkey, Syria, and other regional hotspots with a primary focus on Iran.
Vox has promoted Nisha Chittal to managing editor, upped from director of audience and engagement. Chittal has been at Vox Media since October 2017, when she joined the staff as engagement editor for Racked. Prior to that, she was the director of audience development at Tasting Table and social media manager at NBC News/MSNBC before that.
Andrew Solender has been promoted to senior reporter at Forbes covering the White House, Congress, and all things political. Most recently, he was a reporter covering Congress and the 2020 election. Solender joined Forbes in 2020 and before that served as the editor in chief of The Vassar Insider, the student newspaper of Vassar College.
The Business Journal in Ohio has named veteran reporter and associate editor Dan O'Brien managing editor. He has been with the publication since 1987, became a fulltime reporter in 1998 and was named associate editor in 2010. O'Brien also produced a series of investigative reports in partnership with ProPublica that revelated the extend of discrepancies of the city's tax abatement policies.
Debtwire senior reporter Maura Webber Sadovi now covers leveraged corporate debt, focusing on leisure, real estate and middle market for the publication's North America team. She has been with Debtwire since May 2015 and most recently covered the commercial real estate market, focusing on commercial mortgaged-backed securities. Webber Sadovi has previously served as a columnist for The Wall Street Journal and wrote the WSJ's Deal of the Week columns from 2008-2013.
Yahoo! Finance has hired Jennifer Schonberger to cover crypto currencies. She was previously an on-air reporter and Federal Reserve producer at Fox Business Network. Prior to that. Schonberger was an anchor and producer for The Wall Street Journal and has also previously worked at Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and The Motley Fool.
Bree Fowler is the new senior writer at CNET and covers cybersecurity. She was most recently a technology reporter and writer covering digital security and privacy at Consumer Reports. Before that, she was a reporter for The Associated Press for 16 years. During her time at the AP, Fowler also served as a national technology writer focused on cybersecurity.
Gizmodo has announced two top editorial staff changes:
- David Ewalt has joined the staff as editor in chief. He comes to Gizmodo from The Wall Street Journal, where he spent almost two years built new products including indexes, data-driven rankings, and investigative journalism. Before that, Ewalt was a special projects editor at Reuters.
- Andrew Couts has been named executive editor of the site after spending the past three months as interim editor in chief. He has been at Gizmodo since December 2017 when he joined the staff as managing editor. Before that, Couts was the politics editor for The Daily Dot for almost four years.
FOX News has two promotions and a new hire:
- Jacqui Heinrich its newest White House correspondent. Most recently, she served as Congressional correspondent for Fox News in Washington. Prior to joining Fox News in 2018, she served as an anchor for Fox’s Boston affiliate (WFXT-TV) covering breaking news.
- Fox News New York-based correspondent Aishah Hasnie has been promoted to Fox News Congressional correspondent. She has been at the network since 2019 and before that spent seven years at WXIN/WTTV in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- Alexandria Hoff has joined the staff as a Washington-based general assignment reporter. She comes to Fox News form KYW-TV in Philadelphia, where she was a reporter/anchor for more than six years.
Kasie Hunt has joined CNN in Washington as an anchor and chief national affairs analyst, effective September 7. She will host a new daily politics show on CNN+ (the streaming service launches in the first quarter of 2022) and her reporting and analysis will appear on both CNN+ and CNN. Hunt joins the network from MSNBC where she hosted "Way Too Early" and "Kasie DC". Prior to that, she was a Capitol Hill correspondent for NBC News.
Newsy has hired Eric Ludgood as head of news. In this newly created role, he is responsible for the overall leadership, editorial identity, and programming for the national news organization. Ludgood was most recently the assistant news director for FOX’s WAGA-TV in Atlanta. He is a former news director in Atlanta (WGCL-TV/CBS) and Raleigh (WNCN-TV), and has also worked for 12 years at CNN in a variety of roles.
