Elle has named Katie Jayne Becker beauty director, effective immediately. She is responsible for all beauty, health and wellness coverage, overseeing print editors and collaborating with the digital team. Becker comes from the Coveteur, where she developed the site’s beauty vertical and launched its first influencer-leveraged beauty awards. She has also worked as an editor at Wand Harper’s Bazaar and has written for Town & Country, Marie Claire, Vogue and The Wall Street Journal.
Jacqueline Simmons has been promoted to senior executive editor for the Americas at Bloomberg News. She will relocate to New York after spending 20 years working for Bloomberg in Europe. She most recently oversaw global business from London, and before that reported from Bloomberg in Paris and covered consumer companies, investment banking, finance and M&A. Simmons has been with the newswires since 1996.
The New York Times has announced that Roe D’Angelo has joined the Business desk as a news editor. She has been at The Times since June 2018 as a senior staff editor with the Express team. Before that, D'Angelo spent 18 years at The Wall Street Journal, where she was part of the team that was awarded a Pulitzer for 9/11 coverage and also ran the paper’s books and special projects unit.
Joe Bel Bruno, managing editor at Variety since April 2017, has left the outlet. Bruno helped guide the magazine's global expansion across print, digital, and video. He joined the outlet from the Hollywood Reporter, where he served as a news director for two years. He has also held a variety of roles with the Los Angeles Times, including deputy business editor, markets and finance editor and company town editor.
The Daily Record in Maryland has hired Hope Keller as legal editor. She was most recently a communications manager for the Pretrial Justice Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to reforming the pretrial justice system. Keller has been a reporter and editor at The Baltimore Sun, The Virginian-Pilot and The Philadelphia Inquirer. While at The Inquirer she helped edit a series on the nation’s blood supply, which won a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, and the prize-winning series “America: What Went Wrong.”
Emily C. Singer is the new senior writer for Sharebue covering campaigns and elections. She was previously with the now-defunct Mic, where she served as a senior political reporter for almost three years. Before that, Singer covered the 2016 presidential election and Capitol Hill for Mashable. She has also served as senior political reporter on Roll Call’s campaigns and elections team, covering House and Senate races.
Axios has recruited Gigi Sukin as an associate news editor, based out of Denver, Colorado. She started her journalism career at ColoradoBiz magazine, where she spent the last six years as a digital editor and associate editor before that.
Jalyn Henderson has been hired as a community digital reporter at ABC-owned WLS-TV in Chicago. She was previously a multimedia journalist for Hello SWFL, a local news digital project in Fort Myers, Florida. Before that she worked as a news anchor, reporter and digital producer at KOMU, the University of Missouri's station in Columbia, Missouri.
First Coast News stations WTLV-TV and WJXX-TV in Jacksonville, Florida, have promoted Joe Inderhees to news director, upped from assistant news director. He has been with the stations since August 2016, and joined from San Francisco after several other stops including on-air talent, in what is now a TEGNA station in Toledo, Ohio.
Jacqui Cheng has swapped print media for broadcast, and is now the editor in chief of music for WQXR-FM classical radio station in New York. She comes from The New York Times, where she spent the last two years as an editor in chief for Wirecutter and Sweethome. Before that, she spent 11 years at Ars Technica, and five years as an editor at Conde Nast before that.
