Jeanna Smialek has joined The New York Times in Washington, D.C., as a reporter covering the Federal Reserve and economics. She has previously reported for Bloomberg News and joined the staff as an intern on the U.S. eco team. Smialek has also interned on the business desk of the Raleigh News & Observer.
CBS News in Washington, D.C., has welcomed Ben Tracy as a White House correspondent. He has relocated to the capital after spending the last two years as a foreign correspondent out of the network’s Beijing bureau. Tracy has been with CBS News since 2008, when he joined as national correspondent.
Jon Hilsenrath has taken on a new role as senior correspondent at The Wall Street Journal. He writes stories on the currents shaping the U.S. economy in the context of the 2020 presidential election. For the past two years Hilsenrath has been economics editor at The Journal and handled all national and global economics coverage. He joined the paper in 1997 and has since worked in Hong Kong, News York and Washington, D.C.
CNN Politics has tapped Megan Trimble as a weekend breaking news editor. She comes from US News & World Report, where she most recently served as the digital news editor. Prior to that, she worked for the Associated Press in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Ashley Rodriguez has joined Business Insider as senior reporter covering the future of TV on the media team. She was previously a media reporter for Quartz for four years and covered the business of Hollywood, streaming video, and digital marketing. Before that, Rodriguez spent a year at Advertising Age covering retail and finance.
McClatchy Newspapers has hired Tara Copp as a military and veterans’ affairs reporter. She was previously the Pentagon bureau chief for Military Times and before that worked at Stars and Stripes as Pentagon correspondent. Copp has also covered the Department of Defense for the Washington Examiner, Austin American-Statesman and Scripps Howard News Service.
Lisa Horowitz will join the Los Angeles Times on May 20 as features lead on the copy desk. She will cover the standalone food section, and will edit the arts, books, travel, fashion and lifestyle coverage. Horowitz is a veteran of Variety and LA Weekly.
Artsy has appointed Marina Garcia-Vasquez as editor in chief of Artsy Editorial. She is responsible for directing all editorial and visual content, in collaboration with the art and culture editors and writers, and visuals experts. Garcia-Vasquez brings more than 15 years of experience in journalism, spanning digital media and print—most recently holding positions at Vice Media and the Wall Street Journal—as well as her deep passion for art and culture.
DeMarco Morgan will join KCBS-TV in Los Angeles as a morning news anchor on May 6. He comes from CBS News in New York where he spent the last four years as a correspondent. Prior to that, he spent three years at WXIA-TV in Atlanta as a reporter and co-anchor of the station’s 5,6 and 11 p.m. weekday newscasts.
Fox-owned WNYW-TV in New York has hired Briella Tomassetti as a reporter. She was previously a multimedia journalist at Fios1 News, and before that worked as a producer at WRDE-TV in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
