The New York Times in Washington, D.C., has hired two new reporters:
· Michael Crowley will become a White House correspondent June 17. He comes from Politico where he has been White House and national security editor since 2017. Before that he covered diplomacy and national security in the Obama and Trump administrations as Politico’s senior foreign affairs correspondent.
· Sarah Kliff, a senior policy correspondent at Vox, will join The Times as an investigative reporter in June. Before Vox, she was a reporter at The Washington Post, where she regularly broke health news. Kliff has also discussed policy issues on television, appearing on CBS, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and PBS.
The Washington Post has also brought two new staff, both part of the Op-Ed team:
· Joy Sharon Yi has joined The Post staff as a producer and editor with the Op-Ed video team. She has been a freelance documentary filmmaker and photographer for seven years. She joined The Post in 2018 as a contract video editor for the AMP Stories team.
· Zainab Mudallal has joined the Opinions section as an assistant editor on the digital operations team. She comes from Express, which she joined in June 2015 as a news editor, budgeting and editing the daily Nation and World section and weekly Fit section on health and wellness. She became digital editor in 2017.
Markian Hawryluk to has joined Kaiser Health News as a reporter at the outlet’s new Colorado bureau. He comes from the Bend Bulletin in Oregon where he was a health reporter. Prior to that, he was with The Houston Chronicle on the health beat.
G/O Media (formerly Gizmodo Media Group) has parted ways with editorial director Susie Banikarim. She had been with the company since 2017 and oversaw all editorial operations and set strategic vision for Deadspin, Gizmodo, Jalopnik, Jezebel, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Splinter and The Root.
Paul Maidment will be the new editor in chief of G/O Media and will lead editorial oversight of G/O Media properties, including Splinter, Gizmodo, Jezebel, Jalopnik, Deadspin, The Root, Lifehacker, and Kotaku. He was previously director of analysis at Oxford Analytica.
