Michael Calderone has joined The Hive, Vanity Fair’s business, tech and media vertical, as senior editor. He comes from Politico where he was most recently a senior media reporter, and before that served in the same capacity for HuffPost for six years. Calderone has also covered the media industry for Yahoo! News and the New York Observer.
CNN has welcomed two correspondents, both at the network’s Washington, D.C., bureau:
- Vivian Salama has joined the bureau as a national security correspondent. She was most recently a White House reporter for The Wall Street Journal and before that served as a political reporter for NBC News. Salama has also reported for the Associated Press and Bloomberg News.
- John Harwood has joined the bureau as a White House correspondent. He was previously an editor at large at CNBC and hosted the CNBC Digital original video series “Speakeasy with John Harwood.” Harwood has also written a weekly column for The New York Times.
Dan Shine is the new senior editor at Automotive News and oversees finance and insurance. He comes from the William Davidson Institute where he was a director of communications and content editor. Prior to that, he taught journalism at the University of Michigan and University of Detroit Mercy. Shine has also reported for the Detroit Free press and The Dallas Moring News.
E&E News has welcomed Christian Vasquez as a reporter for Energywire. He covers cybersecurity news in the energy sector, including threats to the power grid and oil and gas industry. He previously worked at Politico as a digital producer and before that as a cybersecurity intern during the 2018 midterm elections.
Michael DeSenne has joined AARP as executive editor, digital news and content. He manages a team of reporters and editors covering health, retirement, money, jobs, taxes, politics and scams for AARP.org, the AARP Now app and other digital channels. He was most recently executive editor of Kiplinger.com.
Nextgov has hired Mariam Baksh as a reporter on the cybersecurity policy beat. She previously spent two years at Inside Cybersecurity as a reporter, and before that covered technology for Morning Consult for a little more than a year.
Rebecca Ayers has moved into a new role at the Dallas Business Journal: staff writer for the outlet’s new money beat. She was most recently a digital reporter and has been on staff since 2019. Ayers has previously held internship roles at GrepBeat, an online publication focusing on tech coverage, and the Triad Business Journal in Greensboro.
KENS-TV, the CBS station in San Antonio, Texas, has promoted Sharon Ko to an anchor of the noon and 6 p.m. newscasts. She was most recently a Sunday morning anchor and news reporter at the station and has been on staff since 2014. Prior to that, Ko was a reporter for KDRV-TV in Medford, Oregon.
