CNN has announced the promotion of several anchors, reporters and correspondents as part of a revamped politics, Capitol Hill and White House line up timed to the start of President Biden's Administration:

  • Jake Tapper's program 'The Lead with Jake Tapper' will expand to two hours beginning in April and will air 4-6 p.m. ET daily. He will continue his role on Sunday mornings, now co-anchoring 'State of the Union with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.' He will also serve as CNN's lead anchor for all major Washington events.
  • Dana Bash has been named co-anchor of the Sunday morning show 'State of the Union with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.' Tapper and Bash will each anchor two Sundays a month, effective January 24. Bash will continue as CNN's chief political correspondent and will also host quarterly primetime interview specials.
  • Abby D. Phillip will become the anchor of 'Inside Politics with Abby Phillip' airing Sundays 8-9 a.m. ET. She has also been named CNN's senior political correspondent.
  • Jim Acosta has been named anchor and chief domestic correspondent. Most recently, he was the chief White House correspondent for CNN.
  • Pamela Brown will be the new anchor for 'CNN Newsroom,' weekends from 6-9 p.m. ET beginning January 23. She will also serve as a senior Washington correspondent.
  • Kaitlan Collins has been named chief White House correspondent, effective January 20.
  • Phil Mattingly will become senior White House correspondent, effective January 20.
  • Arlette Saenz, Jeremy Diamond, John Harwood, MJ Lee and Kate Bennett are the new correspondents covering the White House. Kevin Liptak and Jasmine Wright will join them as WH reporters. All assignments are effective January 20.
  • Jeff Zeleny has been named chief national affairs correspondent and will also cover the first year of the Biden White House. Sunlen Serfaty will become Washington correspondent covering Washington at large.
  • Manu Raju has been named CNN's chief Congressional correspondent. He will be joined on Capitol Hill by correspondents Jessica Dean, Lauren Fox and Ryan Nobles. Daniella Diaz has been named a Capitol Hill reporter. Once again, all assignments are effective January 20.

Arit John has joined the Features Desk at the Los Angeles Times as  lifestyle reporter. She most recently covered the presidential campaign as a political reporter at the paper and has been on staff since February 2020. Prior to that, John covered politics and Congress for Bloomberg News and style for The New York Times.

U.S. News & World Report has hired Chelsea Cirruzzo as a public health reporter. She will write in various topics with a focus on maternal health, social determinants of health, mental health, substance use disorders, homeless/housing and health, Covid-19 and health disparities. She will also continue freelancing for local and national publications in DC covering urban health, homelessness, and the restaurant industry. Her bylines have appeared in the Washington Post, The Lily, DCist, Washington City Paper, and others.

Elite Daily has welcomed Jonathan Borge as senior entertainment editor. He was most recently a freelance TV editor at E! News and before that served as a founding senior editor of Oprahmag.com. Borge has also held editorial positions at InStyle and Marie Claire, and his writing has appeared in Glamour, Refinery29, HuffPost, PAPER, Stylecaster, and others.  

Three Politico veterans, John Bresnahan, Anna Palmer and Jake Sherman, have launched a political news outlet called Punchbowl News ( Punchbowl is the Secret Service nickname for the Capitol) The site will cover the power, people and politics in Washington, as well as the news and events that will move political markets. The new outlet is membership-only and will offer three daily newsletters (AM, Middway and PM), a Sunday night show previewing the week ahead, access to VIP events, and deep dive profiles of political players in the news.

Matthew Brown has been promoted to politics NOW reporter at USA Today, upped from fact-check reporter, a position he has held since joining the paper in March 2020. Brown has previously held editorial internships at POLITICO and New York Amsterdam News.

Travel + Leisure has welcomed Liz Cantrell as associate editor. She comes from Hearst, where she spent the last three years as the assistant to the editor in chief of Town & Country magazine. Cantrell has previously interned at SPIN and Esquire and has freelanced for local newspapers in Vermont including Seven Days, The Colchester Sun, and The Essex Reporter.

Samantha Hernandez is the new education reporter at the Des Moines Register, covering Des Moines Public Schools and education happenings around the state of Iowa. She was most recently a research fellow at Spencer Educational Foundation, and before that covered education for the Green Bay Press-Gazette and Door County Advocate in Wisconsin.

Dealreporter and Mergermarket have named Jay Antenen legal editor, North America, a new position at the Acuris publications. He was most recently the deputy managing editor at the outlets and oversaw the day-to-day editorial operations in New York and Washington, D.C. Before that, Antenen served as senior editor. He has been on staff since 2007.

Bloomberg News reporter Misyrlena Egkolfopoulou has moved to the outlet's personal finance team and has relocated to New York. She now writes about how policy affects people's wallets and how people spend, save and invest money in the post-pandemic era. Most recently covered the 2020 campaign for Bloomberg and before that wrote real estate stories in New York. Egkolfopoulou joined Bloomberg in 2018 as an intern.

Jeff Montgomery has been named business editor of the Telegraph Herald, the daily newspaper in Dubuque, Iowa. He will continue to be the paper's lead business reporter. Prior to joining TH Media, Montgomery worked as a reporter for The Journal-Standard in Freeport, Illinois, and The North Scott Press in Eldridge, Iowa.
