Hearst has elevated O, The Oprah Magazine's editor in chief, Lucy Kaylin, to vice president of print content of the magazine division at the company. She spent the past seven years as the top editor at O Mag and has been at Hearst since 2010. Hearst Magazines' portfolio includes more than 25 brands across all media platforms and publishes over 300 editions and 245 websites globally.
Katie Connor has joined W magazine as executive digital editor, a new role. She was most recently the digital director at ELLE and is credited with boosting its audience by 15 percent. Prior to that, Connor was a deputy editor at ELLE print and has also previously worked as deputy editor at Cosmopolitan and fashion features editor at Marie Claire, all Hearst brands.
Variety has brought on Mónica Marie Zorrilla as a TV reporter and will cover the television-programming business, including streaming services, studios, networks and development for all Variety platforms. She comes from Adweek where she most recently served as a breaking news reporter. Prior to that, Zorrilla served as a full-time editorial staffer at Billy Penn and Al Día News Media, hyperlocal news outlets based in Philadelphia.
Matt Stevens has moved to the Culture desk of The New York Times as general assignment reporter. He spent much of 2020 on the Politics team and covered the Democratic primary and campaign. Before his work on Politics, Stevens covered breaking news for the Express desk. He joined The Times in 2017 after five years at The Los Angeles Times.
McClatchy has appointed Monica R. Richardson executive editor of the Miami Herald effective January 1. She is also responsible for el Nuevo Herald and the Bradenton Herald. Richardson brings nearly three decades of experience in journalism and the local news industry, most recently serving as senior managing editor for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Before that she served as the AJC’s digital managing editor, helping to shape and lead digital strategy.
Financial Planning magazine has hired Chana Schoenberger as editor in chief. She comes from JP Morgan Chase, where she was the VP and managing editor for U.S. Wealth Management. Prior to that, Schoenberger has written business, financial, and other feature articles for publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Business, and Reuters. She also has served as monthly college-finance columnist for The Wall Street Journal's Mutual Funds and ETFs Report and spent a decade at Forbes in various editorial positions.
Emon Reiser has been promoted to managing editor for the South Florida Business Journal overseeing newsroom and digital operations. She was most recently the digital editor of the publication and joined the staff in May 2014 as an economic development reporter. The Business Journal produces a weekly print edition and daily web stories on breaking business news in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Sportico, the digital outlet covering the sports business world, has acquired the college sports site The Intercollegiate, and with that has added two to its staff:
Shawn Yancy has joined the news team of NBC's WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., and will rotated into the evening anchor lineup and also playing a role in the station's special reports. Yancy spent the past 19 years at Fox-owned WTTG-TV in D.C. where she co-anchored the 6, 6:30, 8, 10 and 11 pm weekday newscasts. She won an Emmy and an Edward R. Murrow award for her reporting at the station.
Fox-owned WBFF-TV in Baltimore has hired Mike Fahey as news director. He is responsible for news content including newscasts, digital services and special programming. Fahey comes for WHDH-TV in Boston where he served as executive director since 2014.
Annette Peagler has joined WBTW-TV, the CBS station in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as a co-anchor of the 5:30 and 11 p.m. newscasts. She also works as the solo anchor for Fox News at 10 on WFXB-TV, WBTW’s sister station. Peagler was previously an anchor/reporter for Nexstar in Memphis, Tennessee, and before that worked for Tegan as an anchor.
