The Chicago Sun-Times has named Jennifer Kho as its executive editor. She is the first woman and first person of color to lead the newsroom in the paper's 178-year history. Kho will relocate to Chicago from Los Angeles, where she currently works in her own practice as a digital media consultant. She has previously served as managing editor for the Guardian US, managing editor for HuffPost, and senior director of strategic innovation at HuffPost, where she led the development of new audience engagement, storytelling, and revenue models.
Patia Braithwaite will join The New York Times June 27 as a senior staff editor on the Well desk. She will join the paper from Well + Good, where she was the health director and oversaw coverage of Covid-19, heart health and maternal health among other topics. Before that, Braithwaite covered the intersection of health and culture as a senior health editor at SELF magazine. Her work has appeared in Bloomberg Businessweek, VICE, Allure and The Washington Post.
Vox has named Brian Resnick science and health editor. He has been at the outlet since 2015, when he joined as senior science reporter. Most recently, he was the science editor of the science podcast series, "Unexplainable," which he co-created in March 2021. Prior to joining Vox Media, Resnick was a correspondent for the National Journal for two years.
McKenzie Stratigopoulos has joined CoinDesk as executive producer covering crypto, DeFi and Web3. Most recently, she was a senior production manager at Yahoo Finance, where she helmed the day-to-day planning and execution of live video programming. Before joining Yahoo in 2018, Stratigopoulos spent two years at Fox Business Network as a producer.
The Wall Street Journal has tapped Berber Jin as a reporter covering startups and venture capital; he starts June 13. Jin was previously a reporter at The Information, where he had covered the intersection of finance and technology. Before that, he reported for Business Insider and interned at Bloomberg News.
Myles Udland has returned to Yahoo Finance as senior markets editor. He was previously a strategist at Titan Global Management investment firm for a year, and before that served as an anchor and reporter at Yahoo Finance, where he anchored two hours of daily coverage on Yahoo Finance Live. Udland has also previously worked at Business Insider.
The Washington Post has upped Damian Paletta to deputy business editor. He spent the past two-and-a-half years as the economics editor at the paper and has been on staff since 2017. Prior to The Post, he spent 11 years covering Washington for The Wall Street Journal.
Vanity Fair has promoted Michael Calderone to editor of The Hive, its business and technology section. Most recently, he was a senior editor of The Hive and has been on staff since January 2020. Prior to that, Calderone was a senior media reporter for Politico and covered the intersection of media and politics and wrote the Morning Media newsletter.
The Los Angeles Times has announced several top editorial staff updates across the organization:
- Christian Stone has taken on a new role as deputy managing editor for new initiatives and vice president of LA Times Studios. He will guide the launch of new products and initiatives such as the paper's editorial partnership with Verizon using drones, robotics and 3-D mapping technologies to enhance storytelling; He will also lead the studios portfolio: The Times’ news video group, Originals; Studio Production; Intellectual Property Development; Audio; and the Los Angeles Times Book Club. Stone joined The LA Times in 2020 after spending 27 years at Sports Illustrated, the last four of which he served as editor in chief.
- Iliana Limón Romero has been named assistant managing editor for Sports. She becomes the first female sports editor in the paper's history, and the only Latina sports editor at a major U.S. newspaper. Limón Romero joined The LA Times in 2021 and before that was the sports editor at the Orlando Sentinel.
- Scott Kraft has taken on the newly created role of editor at large, enterprise journalism and special projects. He was most recently the managing editor of the paper. Kraft has been at The LA Times since 1984 and has served as deputy managing editor, national editor, and foreign and national correspondent.
- Nick Baumann will join the Los Angeles Times June 13 as deputy bureau chief for enterprise in the Washington bureau. He joins the paper from The Atlantic, where he was the politics editor since 2020 and led an 11-person team covering American politics. Before that, Baumann served as a senior enterprise editor at HuffPost, where he edited enterprise, investigations and features.
José Criales-Unzueta has joined Vogue Runway as a writer. He is also a fashion designer and has worked with brands including Coach, Kate Spade, Banana Republic, and Christopher John Rogers. His writing has been published in publications including PAPER and i-D.
Eater has named Stephanie Wu as editor in chief. She previously spent three years at Conde Nast Traveler as digital director and before that oversee all editorial and video for Mic’s lifestyle sections. Wu is also the ci-founder and editor at large at Mochi Magazine, the longest running online publication for young Asian American women.
Dawit Habtemariam has joined Skift as global tourism reporter. He has previously served as a staff writer, assistant editor and associate editor at Business Travel News. He also developed key articles for corporate clients as a writer at Buchwald & Associates in New York. Most recently, Habtemariam was a staff writer at Senior Executive, a media company in New York.
Modern Retail has hired Vidhi Choudhary as a senior reporter, covering Amazon and other e-commerce platforms. Most recently, she covered financial markets for TheSreet as a business reporter, and before that she was a tech and media reporter at the Hindustan Times in India.
Isabel Contreras has been promoted to money and markets reporter at Forbes and covers banking, investing and everything related to money. She was previously an assistant editor, Money and Markets, and prior to joining Forbes full time in September 2021, Contreras was a wealth editorial intern at the magazine.
Industry Dive has tapped Delilah Alvarado as an associate editor covering biopharma news. Most recently, she was a contributing reporter at Built In, a tech, information and media company. Alvarado has also freelanced at NewsBreak and interned at Austin Wolman Magazine.
Hillary Hoffower has joined Fortune as a success editor. She joins the magazine from Insider where she was an economics correspondent covering millennial wealth. Prior to that, Hoffower was an associate editor at Boat International Media, where she edited for Dockwalk magazine, a B2B publication for superyacht captains and crew.
Tampa Bay Times has tapped Rebecca Liebson as a reporter covering real estate. She was most recently a reporter covering housing for The State Newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina. Prior to that, Liebson was a fellow at The New York Times and worked on "The Weekly" and the Metro desk.
Jonathan Nicholson has joined HuffPost in Washington, D.C., as politics reporter covering Congress and campaigns. He was previously a congressional reporter at MarketWatch and before that spent almost three years as a deputy team lead/assistant managing editor at Bloomberg Government.
PCMag.com has welcomed Eric Zeman as managing editor overseeing the consumer electronics review program. He comes to the outlet from Android Authority, where he was reviews editor. Zeman has also covered technology and mobile devices as a freelancer for Fortune and InformationWeek.com.
Dawn Gilbertson is the new travel columnist at The Wall Street Journal. She spent the past four years at USA Today as consumer travel reporter and has also written about travel, airlines, and business for the Arizona Republic, where she reported for 22 years.
NBC News has named Priscilla Thompson correspondent. She covers inequality, voting and politics out of Houston. She was most recently a correspondent at NBC News Now, the network's streaming arm. Thompson joined NBC News in 2019 as a campaign embed, reporting on the presidential race, the death of George Floyd and the pandemic. Prior to that, she worked at WPDE Myrtle Beach and CNN, where she was an associate producer.
Laura Barrón-López will join PBS NewsHour June 13 as a White House correspondent covering the Biden administration. She has also been a CNN analyst since 2019 and will continue in that role at the cable news channel. Barrón-López was previously a White House reporter for Politico and worked for the Washington Examiner, The Hill and HuffPost. She succeeds Yamiche Alcindor, who left the program in March.
Rich Garcia has been promoted to news director at WINK-TV, the CBS station in Fort Myers, Florida. He spent the past 15 years as the station's assistant news director and has been on staff since August 2007.
Nexstar Media has named Judson Beck general manager responsible for Nexstar’s broadcasting and digital operations in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Marquette, Michigan, including WFRV-TV (CBS) and WeAreGreenBay.com, and WJMN-TV (IND) and UPmatters.com. He was most recently the VP and GM of WLAX-TV/WEUX-DT, the company’s television station serving La Crosse and Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
