Media Moves at The Daily Beast & AP, Hearst Shuffles Publishers
The Associated Press has recruited Rachel Lerman as technology reporter based in the San Francisco bureau. She was previously a tech reporter for the Seattle Times for three years, and covered Microsoft, startups and venture capital. Before that, Lerman spent a three month fellowship in Berlin, Germany, as part of the Arthur F. Burns program through the International Center for Journalists.
Sam Brodey has joined The Daily Beast as a Congressional reporter based in Washington, D.C. He was previously the Washington correspondent for MinnPost and a fellow at Mother Jones. Brodey is a 2014 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
Hearst has announced the following high-profile changes at the publishing groups of some of its most popular titles:
- Donna Kalajian Lagani has stepped down from her role as publisher of Cosmopolitan after more than 20 years. She will join Hearst Foundations in an undisclosed philanthropy role.
- Replacing Lagani is Nancy Berger, who will take over as publisher of Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, and Seventeen. She was most recently the vice president/publisher and chief revenue officer of Marie Claire.
- Blair Hecht will take over as publisher of Marie Claire. She was most recently the associate publisher of Elle, and before that worked for Teen Vogue and Allure.
- Kevin O’Malley, who is currently the SVP and publishing director/CRO of Elle, will add Marie Claire to his responsibilities. He has been with Hearst since 2003.
Amy Carlile has been promoted to managing editor of E&E News, a brand new role at the company. She is the founding editor of E&E News’ Energywire, and has been on staff since 2007. Before that, she was a features editor/deputy managing editor for Roll Call for five years.
WGN-AM radio in Chicago has hired Kathy Hart as a late night host. She has been filling in with weekend host Frank Fontan since October 2018, and now they have their own weekly show airing Wednesdays from 7-10 p.m. Hart was the one-half of the famous Chicago Eric and Kathy duo until 2017, and co-hosted mornings for 21 years alongside Eric Ferguson on WTMX-FM.
Milana Vinn has joined Buyouts Insider, publisher of Buyouts, Venture Capital Journal and PE HUB, as a tech M&A reporter. She comes from Pageant Media, where she wrote about institutional investing and asset management. She also completed an internship at Bloomberg. Vinn earned her MA in Journalism from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and her BA in Journalism from Saint Petersburg University in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
IndieWire has brought on Libby Hill as a TV awards editor. In the role, she will oversee year-round TV awards coverage, from the Emmys and Guilds through the Golden Globes. She comes from the Los Angeles Times, where she worked as a television writer for the last four years. She previously contributed TV reporting to The New York Times, Vulture, Salon, The A.V. Club, and more.
