Media Moves at WWD & The Boston Globe, PBS NewsHour Hires its First Podcast Producer
Women's Wear Daily has announced several editorial hires, including the appointment of a new executive editor on the West Coast:
- Booth Moore has been named executive editor, West Cost, and will help grow coverage of the fashion, retail and culture scenes on the West Coast. She is the former fashion director of The Hollywood Reporter, and the first fashion critic of the Los Angeles Times, a position she held for 18 years.
- Zoe Szathmary has been tapped as associate digital editor. She was most recently an SEO reporter for Fox News for a little over a year, and before that spent three years at the DailyMail.com as an online reporter.
- Layla Ilchi has been promoted to trending news reporter, upped from editorial assistant, a position she has held since she joined the staff in 2016. Before that, she was an assistant beauty editor at Stash Beauty, and features writer at Washington Square News.
Naomi Martin has joined The Boston Globe as cannabis reporter, and covers the politics, business and societal impact of marijuana legalization.
Politico States has tapped Colby Bermel as an energy reporter for its California edition, effective Jan. 2. He previously worked in the same capacity for S&P Global Market Intelligence and covered the business and politics of energy in the southeast United States. Prior to that, he was a reporting fellow at E&E News in Washington, D.C.
Vika Aronson has joined PBS NewsHour as podcast producer, a first of its kind for the show. She is responsible for managing the launch of new audio products in 2019. Aronson was most recently a podcast producer at Panoply, where she co-produced the podcast "Business Schooled with Alexis Ohanian." Before that, she was at EW Scripps, where she developed and produced new podcasts.
The Chicago Tribune has promoted Amanda Kaschube to director of digital content for sports, upped from senior digital editor. She joined the paper in 2006 as a digital sports producer, and before that spent a year freelancing for the Journal of Property Management. Prior to that, she worked for the Tribune for two years as a sports editorial assistant.
Katy Smith has been named editor at Columbus CEO, succeeding Dave Ghose who has moved to sister pub Columbus Monthly. Smith has been writing Columbus CEO's Tech Talk column since August, and also spent a decades as an assistant managing editor of Columbus Business First before that.
CBS affiliate KHOU-TV in Houston, Texas, has hired Cheryl Mercedes as an investigative reporter, effective Jan 21. She comes from WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she spent the last 12 years as an anchor/reporter. Before that, she worked at KLFY-TV in Lafayette, Louisiana for three years.
