Vice News has hired David Uberti as its first media reporter, covering the intersection of media, politics, and technology. He has previously covered the beat for Gizmodo Media’s Splinter and Columbia Journalism Review. Uberti has also served as a freelance writer and his work has appeared in The Nation and The New Republic.
Dan Peres has been named editor in chief of Gawker. He most recently served as editorial director for The Players Tribune and before that spent 15 years as editor in chief of Details. In the 90s Peres worked for W Magazine as European editor. Gawker, which shut down in 2016, is currently revived by Bustle, and is set to relaunch in the first half of 2019.
The Washington Post has announced that Joshua Partlow has joined the National desk as part of the political enterprise and investigations team. He will continue to focus on the Trump Organization, while also helping to vet 2020 presidential candidates. Partlow most recently served as The Post’s Mexico City bureau chief and joined the paper in 2003 as an intern.
Also, at the Washington Post, Angela Fritz has joined the General Assignment news desk as deputy editor. She will lead a team of reporters covering general digital enterprise and breaking news. Fritz comes from The Post’s Capital Weather Gang where she wrote about the polar vertex, hurricanes, wildfires, tsunamis and other weather-related topics. She has been with the paper since 2014.
Veteran New York Times editor Susan Chira has been named editor in chief of The Marshall Project, the non-profit newsroom covering the criminal justice system in the United States. She starts April 29 and succeeds Bill Keller, who will retire at the end of the month. Chira is currently a senior corresponded and editor at NYT and has spent most of her journalism career at the paper first starting as a reporter in Metro. She later reported for the Business, Style and National desks, and served as a foreign correspondent in Tokyo. She went on to run the foreign desk and the Sunday Week in Review.
Lauren Weber has joined Kaiser Health News as Midwest correspondent and covers healthcare from its new St. Louis bureau. She was most recently a health policy reporter at HuffPost in Washington, D.C., and before that worked for Booz Allen Hamilton as a communications consultant.
The Chicago Tribune has tapped Jessica Villagomez as a reporter. She is a former editor in chief of The DePaulia, the student newspaper of DePaul University, and has also previously interned at the Latino daily Hoy, In These Times and “PBS News Hour.”
Controversial conservative host Bill O’Reilly is set to host a 15-minute daily radio program titled “The O’Reilly Update.” It launches April 29 at 11:30 a.m. and will be distributed by syndicator Key Networks. O’Reilly most recently served as the host and executive producer of “The O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News, but was fired in April 2017 after revelations that five women were paid millions in settlements after claims of sexual harassment.
Chicago’s WBBM-AM news radio has welcomed back Jennifer Keiper as news anchor and reporter. She comes from WLS-AM where she served as afternoon news anchor and host of the weekly auto show “Drive Chicago.” Keiper previously worked for WBBM, first as a traffic reporter and later as an anchor/reporter. She moved on to WLS and has also served as Midwest correspondent for Fox News Radio.
Eric Cox has signed on at CBS-owned WBBM-TV in Chicago as a reporter. He was most recently a news anchor and reporter at KMOV-TV in St. Louis, Missouri, and before that had stints at WRTV-TV in Indianapolis, and WBND-TV in South Bend, Indiana.
