Vice Media’s biannual fashion, art and culture magazine, GARAGE, has promoted fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson to fashion director. Prior to joining GARAGE, Karefa-Johnson was with VOGUE in numerous roles, including features assistant, fashion assistant, and associate fashion editor.
Law bureau chief, Ashby Jones, has been promoted at The Wall Street Journal to deputy U.S. news coverage chief. Jones has been with WSJ for over ten years, holding positions as an editor, reporter, and WSJ Law blog writer. Before that, he was a reporter with The Deal and American Lawyer Media.
NPR will welcome Claudia Grisales as a Congressional reporter June 10. She is currently wrapping up her time at the online and print publication, Stars and Stripes, where she is also a Congressional reporter. Grisales began her career at the Austin American-Statesman as an investigative business news reporter.
Barron’s Online has promoted managing editor, Dan Hirschhorn to editorial director of the online magazine. In his new role, he will continue overseeing the editing desk. Hirschhorn previously covered politics for POLITICO and The Daily, and served as director of news for TIME magazine. Meanwhile, Barron’s print magazine managing editor, Phil Roosevelt, has been promoted to editorial director. Prior to Barron’s, Roosevelt was assistant deputy editor for Time Inc. publications, and editor in chief at American Banker.
Current Washington Post reporter, Kimbriell Kelly will join the Los Angeles Times Washington, D.C. bureau as an editor in the summer of 2019. Before WaPo, Kelly held roles at The Chicago Reporter including reporter, editor, and publisher.
The Houston Business Journal has hired Saaniya Bangee as managing editor, overseeing the daily operations of the newsroom. She comes from Rigzone, a website for oil and gas jobs and news, where she held positions as assistant news editor, web editor, and more recently, managing editor.
Former Fox Television entertainment reporter, David Viggiano, is joining ABC-owned Chicago station WLS-TV as a producer on Windy City Live. Since leaving Fox in 2010, Viggiano has been working in media relations and training.
Los Angeles, CA ABC affiliate station, KABC-TV has brought on Rachel Brown as an anchor and reporter. She comes from Charlotte, NC, where she was an anchor and reporter for WCNC-TV. Prior to that, Brown was a multimedia journalist with South Bend, IN WBND-TV.
Michael “Swift” Powell has been appointed program director of Urban One’s Washington, D.C. station WKYS-FM. Powell joins from KXHT-FM in Memphis, TN, where he was also program Director. He has spent time in Charlotte, NC as a program director for WGIV-FM, and before that, was assistant program director for KMEZ-FM in New Orleans, LA.
