Media Moves at Forbes & Fashionista, The Verge Hires a Science Reporter
The New York Times in Washington, D.C., will welcome David McCabe as a tech policy reporter in September. He was most recently at Axios, where he covered tech policy and before that worked at The Hill, where he covered tech policy and breaking news. He was also a politics intern at The Huffington Post and has interned in radio.
Justine Calma is the new science reporter at The Verge and covers the environment and climate change. She comes from Grist, where she was a staff writer covering environmental justices and health since May 2018. Prior to that, Calma worked as a story coordinator on the late-night assignment desk for Inside Edition at CBS.
Forbes has tapped Martin Swant as a reporter covering marketing, advertising and technology. He was previously a staff writer at AdWeek for four years and reported on the intersection of media, marketing and technology. He has also previously freelancer for Nashville Public Radio and worked as a political reporter at the Associated Press.
Maura Brannigan has returned to Fashionista, this time as editor at large covering features. She was previously a senior editor at the blog and left in June 2019 and had a brief stint at WeWork as a writer. Brannigan has also worked at Lucky as a digital fashion news writer and Marie Claire as a web assistant.
Seattle Magazine has promoted Chelsea Lin to executive editor, upped from food and dining editor. She has been with the magazine since 2016 and before freelanced for the Food Network, Edible Seattle, SF Weekly, Spin, and more. Lin has also served as a social media manager and writer at MSN Weather and a city editor at Citysearch.
Evelyn Larrubia has been added to the new site The Markup as managing editor for investigations. She spent most of her career as an investigative reporter for the Los Angeles Times and worked as an editorial director at the Investigative News Network. Most recently she ran “Marketplace” radio program at American Public Media as an executive editor.
KUSA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Denver, Colorado, has hired Arielle Orsuto as a sports reporter. She was previously a sports anchor/reporter at KWCH-TV in Wichita, Kansas, and before that sonnet two years at KOTA-TV in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Jeff Boden has joined WRNR-FM in Annapolis, Maryland, as president and general manager. He most recently was president of Delmarva Broadcasting, a family owned company since 1931 and now owned by Forever Broadcasting. Boden is a veteran radio manager and has sent years working for ABC, Citadel and Cumulus.
Riverfront Broadcasting has promoted Jim Kallas to general manager and will oversee KDDX-FM and KZZI-FM radio stations in South Dakota. He was most recently the operations manager at the company and prior to that spent two decades as program director at Duhamel Broadcasting Enterprises.
John Rozz has been promoted to director of programming at Sun Broadcasting in Ft. Meyers, Florida. He will oversee programming of classic rock WARO-FM, active rock WXNX-FM, news/talk WFSX-AM and sports/talk WFSX-AM. He was previously a program director for WARO-FM/WXNX-FM.
