Media Moves at Saveur & CNN Newsource, U.S. News & World Report Names First Female Top Editor
Gia Kourlas has been named dance critic at The New York Times. She has been a contributing dance critic for the paper since 2000 and has covered all forms of dance, from ballet to modern to street styles. She has also worked for New York Magazine and The Paris Review and spent five years as the dance editor for Time Out New York in the 1990s.
CNBC Digital has added two new reporters:
· Emma Newburger has joined as a general assignment reporter and will cover climate change and its impact in America’s biggest companies. She joined CNBC in the summer of 2018 as part of the network’s first-ever digital news rotation program, in which members rotate through various teams in the CNBC.com newsroom. Previously, Emma was a production intern at MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” and a media relations intern at NPR.
· Kevin Stankiewicz will join CNBC as a reporter in late August. He will work as an embed reporter, covering news made by our various on-air guests. Stankiewicz was most recently a reporter for The Columbus Dispatch, where he worked on the metro desk since May 2018. He covered a range of topics, including suburban government and K-12 education.
Kim Castro has been named the new editor and chief and content officer of U.S. News & World Report. She is the first female editor and chief content officer of U.S. News, and will assume day-to-day oversight of all of U.S. News' editorial content. Castro has been with the publication since 2008 and most recently served as the deputy chief of content and executive editor of consumer advice.
CNN Newsource has welcomed Nadia Romero as a correspondent out of Washington, D.C. She comes from KCPQ-TV in Seattle, Washington, where she spent the last three years as an anchor and reporter. Romero has previously worked at KTVX-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah, and KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Sarah Gray Miller is the new editor in chief of Saveur and succeeds Stacy Adimando. Miller was most recently the top editor of Modern Farmer from 2015 to 2018 and has previously led Country Living and O at Home magazine. She was the launch editor of the now-defunct Budget Living, which won Ad Age’s launch of the year in 2003 and a National Magazine Award for General Excellence the following year.
The Houston Business Journal has shifted Laura Gillespie to a reporter covering education and retail. She was most recently covering restaurants and retail for HBJ and has been on staff since March 2019. Gillespie was previously and editorial fellow at Houstonia Magazine and an editorial intern at the Houston Chronicle.
Ji Suk Yi has been hired as a regular contributor to Steve Cochran’s morning show on WGN 720-AM, effective August 5. She will appear with Cochran weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m. Yi was most recently the host and columnist of The Grid: Neighborhood Eats, a column and video series for the Chicago Sun-Times. Prior to that, she spent seven years as a featured personality on “Windy City Live” in Chicago.
