Lucy Alexander has joined Robb Report as a staff writer reporting from New York City. She covers all things global luxury, particularly real estate, architecture, design, travel, art, and tech. Alexander was most recently a freelance foreign correspondent in Tokyo writing about people and places for The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times and The Sunday Times. She has also covered Asian news and business for The Times of London, where she had worked for 10 years as a staff writer and editor. Alexander has also contributed commentary on Asia for the BBC and Sky News.
The New York Times has announced a promotion and two new hires:
· Michael Slackman has been promoted to assistant managing editor for International and oversees international coverage and newsroom operations around the world. more global readers. Slackman has led the international news desk for the past three years as international editor and began his New York Times career in 2003 in Metro. Prior to that he was the Cairo bureau chief for the Los Angeles Times.
· Abdi Latif Dahir will join The Times in Nairobi in November as East Africa correspondent. He comes from Quartz Africa, where he served as East Africa reporter for three years. Abdi has also reported on the Horn of Africa region for various news outlets, including Africa Review, The East African, United Press International and Al Jazeera English.
· Eleanor Barkhorn has joined Op-Ed Nov 14 as a technology editor. She was previously the deputy managing editor of Vox, where she helped launch a consumer culture section, The Goods. Before Vox, Barkhorn sonnet five years as an editor at The Atlantic.
David Biller has joined The Associated Press as news director for Brazil. He is based in the Rio de Janeiro bureau. He joined AP from Bloomberg News, where he focused primarily on the Brazilian economy and government. Biller has previously worked in Mexico and Chile, covering oil and renewable energy for the Business News Americas agency while writing for magazines, including National Geographic en Español.
Vice Media has acquired Refinery29, the digital media company for Millennial women. Founded in 2005 by husband-and-wife duo Philippe von Borries and Piera Gelardi, along with Christene Barberich and Justin Stefano, Refinery29 publishes entertainment content and runs a lucrative events business.
Paper magazine editor in chief Drew Elliott will leave the publication to become the new senior vice president and global creative director at MAC Cosmetics. He starts his new role on October 28. Elliott has been at the helm of Paper since 2014 and oversaw the magazine during its most successful run, including the famous Kim Kardashian cover that “broke the internet” in 2014.
Alfred "Big Al" Williams is the new afternoon host for KOA-AM radio in in Denver, Colorado. He co-hosts the “Big Al & JoJo” show along with JoJo Turnbeaugh. The new show will focus on the Denver Broncos, University of Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado Rockies as well as feature top sports stories and headlines. Most recently, Williams served as a top-rated radio sports talk personality in Denver for KKFN-FM.
