Nicole Nguyen has joined The Wall Street Journal as a personal tech columnist, focusing on consumer products and services. She most recently served as a technology reporter for Buzzfeed for more than three years, and prior to that covering tech news and geek culture at POPSUGAR for more than two years.
Newly launched Minnesota Reformer, the independent non-profit news organization focusing on state news, government and public issues, has announced several new hires:
J. Patrick Coolican has been named the editor in chief of the nonprofit outlet. He comes from the Minneapolis Star Tribune where he spent more than five years with the publication as a reporter covering politics and state government.
Rilyn Eischens has joined as a data and education reporter. She most recently spent more than a year covering education for The Staunton News Leader in Virginia. Eischens has also worked for the Minnesota Daily, Minneapolis Star Tribune and San Antonio Express – News.
Ricardo Lopez has joined as a senior political reporter. He previously served as a state politics and government reporter for the Minneapolis Star Tribune for more than five years. Lopez also has worked as a business reporter for the LA Times, a metro general assignment reporter for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and multimedia editor for The Virginia – Pilot.
Max Nesterak has joined as a reporter covering urban policy, economics and labor. He comes from Minnesota Public Radio where he served as an associate producer for the Morning Edition program.
Mary Emily O’Hara has joined Adweek as a diversity and inclusion reporter. She most recently was a contributor for Them, the LGBTQ-focused vertical from Condé Nast, where she covered government and politics with LGBTQ connections. O’Hara has also previously served as a segment producer for MSNBC, a reporter focusing on gender politics and LGBTQ for NBC News, a LGBT Reporter for The Daily Dot, and as a staff writer for VICE.
The New York Times Book Review has tapped Dave Kim as a preview editor focusing on literary fiction books; he replaced Alida Becker. Kim makes the move from The Times’s National desk where he covered breaking news stories for more than two years. He has been with the paper since 2015 and started as a staff editor. Prior to joining The Times, he was a freelancer writing for magazines and literary journals.
Rachael Krause has joined Spectrum News 13 in Orlando, Florida, as a multimedia journalist. She comes from WAVE 3 News, the NBC affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky, where she spent more than two years covering southern Indiana news and affairs as a multimedia journalist and fill-in anchor. Krause has also served as a multimedia journalist and bureau chief for WPSD-TV in Marion, Illinois, as a multimedia journalist for KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa, and as a multimedia producer for WHO-HD in Des Moines, Iowa.
KTVK-TV in Phoenix, Arizona has named Susan Campbell consumer reporter. She comes from serving as a consumer investigative reporter with WPRI-TV in Providence, Rhode Island. Campbell spent more than six years with the CBS affiliate in Providence, and prior to that she served as a general assignment reporter for WFMJ-TV, the NBC affiliate in Youngstown, Ohio.
