The New York Times has announced a promotion on its Op-Ed team and additional staff updates on the Enterprise and Tech teams: 

  • Alex Kingsbury has been promoted to editorials editor on the enterprise team. Before his promotion he held the post of senior staff editor since 2018. Prior to joining The Times, he was deputy ideas editor for the Boston Globe Media for three years. He has held posts at WBUR and U.S. News & World Report as well.  

  • Honor Jones has been named cover stories editor on the enterprise team. This is a newly created role where James will be tasked to manage ambitious written works from the team.  

  • Hanna Ingber is the new editor of The Times’s new technology newsletter. Ingber comes from The Reader Center where she was editorial director since 2017. She joined The Times in 2012 as a staff editor. Before joining, Ingber was the editor of breaking news and social media for the GlobalPost. 

  • Ben Smith will join the paper as a media columnist on March 2. He comes from Buzzfeed where he served as editor in chief for eight years where he grew and managed the newsroom. Before that, Smith was a reporter for Politico and a political columnist and blogger for the New York Daily News. He also has bylines in the New York Observer and New York Sun. 

Sidney Fussell will join Wired in March as a reporter covering big tech, surveillance and Silicon Valley.  Most recently, Fussell served as a reporter for Atlantic Media for a little over a year. Before that he held the same role with Gizmodo Media Group. Fussell has covered a range of topics including video games, race, stereotypes and entertainment among others. His work has appeared in The Huffington Post, Fusion and The Guardian.  

Natasha Mascarenhas will join TechCrunch in March as a reporter covering venture capital and startups in Silicon Valley. Most recently, she served in the same capacity for Crunchbase since 2019. Prior to that, Mascarenhas was a business reporting intern for the San Francisco Chronicle and SFGATE. She also held posts at Boston Globe Media where she served as an audience engagement intern and before that a business desk intern.  

Eater has announced three new hires: 

  • Tanay Warerkar has joined as a reporter covering New York City’s dining and restaurant scene. Prior to joining, he was a video-writing food fellow for Insider. Before that Warerkar served as a freelance reporter where he covered NY’s Indian sweet shops and fast food.  

  • Erika Adams has been named a reporter covering food and dining. She was most recently a freelance journalist and before that a business reporter for Skift Table. Adams has also held posts with Vox Media where she reported for the now-defunct Racked vertical.  

  • Luke Fortney has joined as a reporter covering restaurant news in New York City. He comes from The Atlantic where he served as an editorial and video fellow. Before that, he served as a per diem associate producer for WNYC public radio. Fortney has also contributed to NPR in Cleveland and Eater New York. 

KPHO-TV, the CBS affiliate in Pheonix, Arizona, has hired Whitney Clark as a weekend evening anchor and reporter. She comes from KGUN, the ABC affiliate in Tucson, Arizona, where she most recently served as a morning anchor and before that a reporter and anchor.  

Allyson Meyers has joined KTUL-TV, the ABC affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as general manager. She most recently served as general manager and vice president for WOFL-TV and WRBW-TV, the FOX affiliates in Orlanda, Florida and WOGX-TV in Gainesville, Florida for seven years.  

WBIZ-FM, the iHeartMedia affiliate in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, has welcomed back Hannah Cole back as morning co-host. Cole was a part of the iHeartMedia cuts and served as a morning co-host for the Dave DeVille in the Morning Show for five years before being laid off.
