Talking Points Memo has hired Kaila Philo as an investigative reporter at the D.C. bureau. She begins her role in August and will join TPM from the Grid, where she was a government and political reporter since August 2021. Prior to that, Philo was a research assistant at Media Matters for America and an editorial fellow at The Atlantic.

Camille von Kaenel has joined Politico as California environmental reporter, where she covers the state's environmental policy and news. She joins the staff from nonprofit newsroom inewsource, where her investigative reporting in San Diego County unearthed a problem with wildfire insurance that helped lead to a new state law. Before that, von Kaenel was a corps member of Report for America.

Dustin Racioppi has been named government and politics editor for USA Today's Atlantic region. He joins from The New Jersey Record, where he has served as a statehouse reporter for nearly 8 years. Prior to that, he has worked at Asbury Park Press, RedBankGreen.com, The Vail Daily in Colorado and the Norwich Bulletin in Connecticut.

ESSENCE has named Nandi Howard content director. She is the former editor in chief of Houstonia Magazine and was at the helm of the magazine for the past year. This is a homecoming for Howard, whose previous stint at ESSESNCE was from 2019 to 2020 and served as fashion features editor.

American Vogue has promoted Julie Tong to commerce director, where she will oversee the shopping team, cover the fashion, beauty, home, and lifestyle shopping beats, and manage content creation and strategy for Vogue's The Get. Tong first joined Vogue in 2019 as a commerce editor and was promoted to senior commerce editor in January of last year.

The New York Times has added two new reporters on the Style desk:

  • Madison Malone Kircher has joined as a reporter covering zeitgeisty stories about what's happening online. Most recently, Malone Kircher was host of “In Case You Missed It,” Slate’s podcast about internet culture, and a staff writer. Before Slate, she was a senior writer at New York Magazine.
  • Joe Bernstein will also join the staff August 8 to cover \how tech is changing the way Americans see themselves and each other,” and the convergence of that sector with culture, politics, and the media. Bernstein comes to The Times from Buzzfeed News, where he has been since 2013. He was also a 2021 Nieman Fellow at Harvard.

Leslie Horn Peterson is the new managing editor for Babylist. Her focus will be on expanding the site's health content, as well as spearheading more coverage of personal finance and wellness topics. This comes after seven years at Vice Media, where she primarily worked on Noisey.

Doug Newcomb  is the new mobility reporter at Automotive News covering  the innovations, people and trends that are transforming transportation. Newcomb was previously a senior industry analyst for mobility at Wards Intelligence. Before that, he was the senior editor of technology for Edmunds.com, executive editor of Car Stereo Review, Mobile Entertainment and Road & Track Road Gear magazines, and managing editor and editor of Car Audio magazine.

The Philadelphia Inquirer has promoted Erica Palan to deputy business editor, upped from deputy opinion editor a position she has held for the past five years. Palan has been at the paper since 2014 and before that freelanced for Philadelphia Magazine.  

Jay Caruso has taken on a senior editor position at Fox Business. He comes to the network from the Washington Examiner, where he worked as deputy editor and then managing editor. Before that, Caruso worked as an editorial writer and editorial board member at The Dallas Morning News. 

Forbes has hired Jabari Young as a sports reporter. A veteran of sports news coverage, Young most previously worked for CNBC, where he joined in 2019. He has also covered sports for The Athletic, the San Antonio Express-News, and NBC Sports Northwest.

Sherri Shepherd's new national syndicated show "SHERRI" is cleared to premier on Sept. 12. It will broadcast in more than 97% of the country with the Fox TV stations as its core station group. The daily show will also air on the Hearst, Sinclair and Nexstar stations, among others. "SHERRI” will focus on pop culture, comedy, conversations, and celebrity and human-interest interviews. The program has hired the following producing staff:

  • David Perler, the longtime executive producer of “The Wendy Williams Show,” will serve as executive producer and showrunner of “SHERRI."
  • Siobhan Schanda is the executive in charge of talent/supervising and talent producer. She held the same position at "The Wendy Williams Show."
  • David Batista is a senior talent producer. He was also part of "The Wendy Williams Show" talent team.
  • Joanne Juste is a talent coordinator for the show. She was also part of "The Wendy Williams Show," where she was a talent assistant.

Alicia Quarles has been named anchor on "Wake Up With Cheddar," the morning show on Cheddar News, the digital news channel. Quarles is also a contributor for ABC’s GMA3: What You Need To Know and a correspondent for DailyMail TV. She previously worked as a correspondent for E! News and was the global entertainment and lifestyles editor at the Associated Press.

Wisconsin Public Radio has tapped Evan Casey as Milwaukee reporter. He comes to the station from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where he was a communities reporter since 2019. Prior to that, Casey was a Wisconsin-based freelance writer and has contributed to Kenosha News, the Journal Times in Racine, Wis., and the Milwaukee Courier.

Anna Brand has joined CNN Digital as managing editor of global data and graphic team. She previously spent seven years at NBC News, most recently as senior editor for news projects. Brand has also served as homepage editor at MSNBC Digital as well as the homepage editor and reporter at The Daily Beats before that.

HGTV has named Kenley Stevenson as assistant market editor, covering shopping and decorating content. Along with her lifestyle blog "A Taste at Twenty-Something," Stevenson has written for The Click News, US Sun, and the Long Islander.
