Janna Herron will join USA Today and the paper's Money team, as a reporter covering personal finance, real estate and financial markets. She will be based in the New York City bureau and joins the staff on Sept. 4. Herron has previously worked at the Associated Press, Bankrate, The Fiscal Times and ValuePenguin, and has written about business, personal finance and real estate news for more than a decade.
The Dallas Business Journal has added two reporters to its roster:
- Claire Ballor will join the staff as real estate reporter, effective Sept. 4. She comes from the Dallas Morning News, where she served as a breaking news and city hall reporter.
- Taylor Tompkins is the new data communications reporter at DBJ, effective Aug 27. She was most recently a reporter and content curator at CreditCards.com, and before that worked at the San Antonio Express-News.
Ely Portillo, a reporter at the Charlotte Observer, has moved to the local government and politics beat. He previously covered real estate and development for the paper. Portillo joined the Observer in 2009, first as a crime and and courts reporter, and later moved to the business desk as a retail and general assignment business reporter. h/t Talking Biz News
San Francisco Chronicle business editor, Owen Thomas, has started writing the paper's technology-focused online newsletter Tech Chronicle. The newsletter comes out each Wednesday and focuses on behind-the-scenes of the San Francisco Chronicle’s business and technology coverage, as well as insights on San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
Emma Cosgrove has joined Supply Chain Drive as a reporter based in New York City. She was previously reporting for AgFunder. SCD is an online publication that provides news and information pertaining to shipping, logistics, tracking, inventory management, storage, warehousing, freight and fulfillment.
The Chicago Tribune has parted ways with Monique Garcia. She was the paper's Statehouse bureau chief, and had been on staff since 2007. Garcia has moved on from journalism, and is now the vice president of public relations for Mac Strategies Group, a strategic communications, public affairs and government relations firm.
KYW-TV, the CBS owned television station in Philadelphia, has bid farewell to Meisha Johnson. She has been the traffic anchor for the station since 2015. Replacing her is Chandler Lutz, who will fill in Johnson's shoes as traffic anchor on the 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. broadcast. He comes from MyNetwork TV's WPHL, where he most recently served as traffic anchor.
Scott Krus is the new general manager for Moody Radio and its national network.He starts his duties on Sept. 1 and will be based in the network's headquarters in Chicago. Krus is a radio veteran, who most recently served as the station manger for Moody Radio Cleveland since 2014. His career began in 1991 at Moody Radio WBNH in Pekin, Illinois
